Default SLP 85mm MAF vs GM MAF

I have a 414 stroker with TSP 85mm lid , smooth bellow, and 90/90 combo with a SLP 85mm MAF. I heard the slp MAF sucks and the stock GM is better. Is that true? and if so will I lose hp going back to the stock MAF and will the GM MAF choke my motor up?. Is polishing the stock MAF worth anything or waste of time?

The stock camaro one is 78mm if I recall correctly. The 85mm maf works great if you just put the right calibration in.

The slp 85mm has a resistor in it that increases timing so if your getting knock now. I don't think the slp maf will help you any. The gm 85mm maf will work out great for you if you can get your car tuned for it.

If you can't tune then the SLP MAF ('01-'02) is as
close as you can get to stock reading. How close?
Nobody is saying, least of all SLP. '98-'00 model is
biased lean on purpose, bad idea in my opinion.

If you are going to tune then a Delphi straight MAF
and a GM table will put you right.

The resistor is soldered to the backside of two of
the "legs" inside the throat and has a sleeve of heat-
shrink tubing on it. Remove it and you will have a
regular Delphi MAF. Just be sure that's going to work
out for you. Untuned a regular Delphi MAF will put
you 25% rich and set a mixture code in under a day,
on an F-body.

One good thing about the SLP MAF is, it comes with
an adaptor pigtail and a bit of Fernco hose, both are
handy. Though Casper's pigtail with the IAT included
is nicer, and you could get a Delphi MAF off eBay and
a Casper's adaptor and be about $50 ahead. Make it
$49.21 if you wanted to add a 2.7K resistor from Radio
Shack and didn't have any laying around.
