Default Strip numbers for the SB2.2 LT1

We have been having a hell of a time getting the car down the track. The three major problems have been excess weight, it won't shift and it won't 60'.

First, we got a burkhart 9" with aerospace drag brakes, 4.30's and a spool. that also helped with the weight. A good 35lbs lighter that the posi equipped, stock brake 12 bolt we had.

Big thanks to Madman who helped with suspension tuning which got us into the 1.5x range.

It still won't shift and with a raceweight of 3818 with driver it went 11.01 @ 125 with a 1.59 60' coming out at 7000 on the 2 step all motor.

We have concluded that no synchro equipped T56 is going to shift at 7500+ especially with a street twin, so we traded it in on the ultimate setup...

A G-force semi clutchless vertical gate shifted GF5R 5 speed with a McLeod soft-lok clutch. This will still alow street driving as you can use the clutch however, at the strip, you leave with the clutch, hold it on the wood and rip through the gears and with the vertical gate shifter it's impossible to miss. You bearly have to touch the clutch and that's only to get it out of gear, it falls into the next gear and takes no time at all to shift. You can even shift with out the clutch although it won't go as long between rebuilds.

That should get us into the the 10.50 range on motor plus it weighs about 25 lbs less than the T56.

Then it's time to hit the button...

This winter we can get another 125 lbs out of it then it should be right in the ballpark.

I may have given up on the T56 record but 8's here we come.

Thanks Guys.

Hey Stealth, Come on up next time, doesn't matter what I'm doing. I always like to meet and talk with fellow board members. I was only resetting the 2step anyway. I don't work on the tune...I know just enough about that to royally F something up.

Dave I hope this trans helps the car. This thing is making 600+rwhp, you should be able to granny shift the car and run 130+ mph. You datalog any of those runs?

Good numbers Dave. What rpm are you launching at? Can't wait to see it on the spray.

Thanks everyone.

Well, the car is heavy beacuse of the triple purpose nature. This car is still a road race car and not a pure drag car meaning it has power steering, brakes, ABS, etc... It has a huge oil cooler, an accusump and it holds 12 quarts of oil. We couldn't get a fiberglass cowl hood at the time we needed it so ours is the factory steel with a cowl grafted on, very nicely done but heavy. The cage is all mild steel, it has a bout 6 miles of braided line, etc... Plus the Sb2.2 heads are about 20lbs heavier, the block is filled with block filler, and it has a 36 lb sfi bellhousing.

We can get more weight out of it this winter, right now it weighs about 3620 without me. Percy's rear window, aluminum 3rd member, replace some of the hose with prolite and some other things and I think I can get it to about 3475 without me and thats not bad for what it is.

The car should go 130. It is important to note that we blew a tire on our trailer half way to the track that night and I had to take the car off and drive it the rest of the way. I had real cold plugs in it for spray and they got pretty glazed. On the dyno when that happened we were down about 50 rwhp plus taking almost 1 second between each shift keeps it out of the gas and looses bigtime momemtum so I think it will work itself out.

I'm going to put a camera low on the passenger side roll cage eventually to get some good driver shifter vids.

Currently coming off the 2 step at 7000. The new trans has a 3.15 first gear so I should be able to dial that back a bit. In addition I haven't enabled a launch mode fuel map so it loads up a little on the limiter. Once I do that it should pick up a bit as well.

As for pics... BTW, the chute looks a little out of place on a 10 sec car but it does have 275hp worth of spray on it so I may just need it.

He means it is currently 10s N/A. He did mention the near 300 shot of nitrous in addition to that.

The block and... well...um... the block.

Mid 10's are expected on the motor alone. I'm looking for 9.0's - 8.90's on the hit.

What suspension setup are you running at the road coarse that still hooks at the track? Or are you going to swap out the springs/shocks/swaybars for the road coarse?

The shocks and springs stay the same. We just remove the front and rear sway bars and install the BMR drag sway bar and of course re-adjust shock settings. I modified the rear road race bar to use the same linkage as the drag bar so that swap is easy. It has QA1's all around and hyperco springs. They are stiff but after playing with settings we found that the heavier car with a manual trans likes them to be stiff. I suppose that I could pick up by going to a double adjustable rear with proper drag springs but frankly it leaves so good right now I hate to mess with it. I think I can get it to 1.50's and maybe high 1.40's on the motor with more tuning and that should drop into the 1.30's on spray.

BTW everything I just said here comes courtesy of Madman without whom I would not have even come close.

The car looks good man!, thats weird how your trans wont shift at those rpms. Have you asked any of the t56 experts about that?
