Default base gas

Ok I've noticed something for the past 3 fill ups i've had on base since i got my tune. If i fill up on base and drive around i end up throwing a check engine light for an o2 sensor (forgot the exact code), i use the gas up fill up off base and after a little driving the code turns off automatically. This has happened 3 times now. Anyone else notice anything with gas from the base gas stations

yeah i absolutely refuse to use base gas, even in my beater. my mechanic friend ran tests on the fuel a year ago (atleast octane tests, not sure what else). they weren't even close to good. i really dislike aafes, think we could get much better contractors.

gas is always 10-13 cents more expensive... I always get gas off base anyway, but thanks for the heads up.

We have the same problems here at Bragg. We've noticed knock coming on a lot sooner tuning with aafes gas in the tank than BP or something similiar. aafes sucks ***

I used base gas from time to time. From Ft. Detrick up in Maryland. Never had any problems with it. And it ususally cost 10 cents cheaper. Now i'm out of the area and out the Marines. So i'll never have the need anymore.

Are you at Luke? I think I have seen you around a few times.

Anyways I'm POL here and there is not much difference from the gas you put in your car from the gas that runs the base cars and trucks.

Here at Cannon, the base gas is actually a higher octane then what you'll find downtown. Base has 91 octane, the rest of town only carries 90. Price wise, they're about the same most of the time... no big savings by buying gas on base.

The only places I filled up my Camaro, and now my GTO is on base. Never once ran into a problem with their fuel, nor has it affected performance. You can see the dyno chart in my sig... for a stock LS2 those are pretty good numbers.

I'm not sure how AAFES gets their gas. I believe they have local contracts, so each base may get their fuel from different suppliers. Not sure how that works.

A co-worker of mine's brand new R6 started sputtering after he put base gas in it. He had to haul it home in the back of a friend's truck. Now it's at the dealership being fixed under warranty. I never had a problem filling up on base, but now I think I might fill up elsewhere.

I hate to say it and I'm sure many will disagree. But the gas you buy on base is the same stuff (except for some additives) you would buy down town. ALL gas stations get their fuel from the same local distrubutors. Only difference between them is whatever additives are added after the fact. Companies like Exxon or Sunoco have additives they add after the truck is filled to make the fuel the way they want it. Many lower cost or Mom and Pop places (or the base) just get the basic gas.

The only thing to do if your're sincerely concerned about the quality of base gasoline is to get it independantly analyized. Other than that... it's all rumors and speculation.

Agreed...base gas is what I use 95% of the time, even in my turbo Buick...no downsides at all.
