Default N/A cam guys I need your help

I have an '02 TA A4 with ORY, LS6 intake, 85mm TB, ported mass air, K&N fipk.

I need to know what a good cam is for a car that's never gonna see spray or boost and isn't gonna get heads anytime soon. i'm a student on a budget and really can't afford to get the wrong cam. I want the cam to have a very rough idle but still be good for a daily cause this is my only car. As long as the car doesn't shut off on me while I'm driving, I'm good. Everything else i can deal with. I know about all the supporting mods for the cam install and I've got them covered with exception of a stall. That will be next. Will my car drive ok if i have a cam without the corresponding stall?

In a nut shell: What cam? rough idle but still DD. My goal is somewhere !CLOSE! to 400 rwhp

I was looking at the TSP 233/239 with a 112 LSA

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I have the MS4 and 3500 stall. I wouldn't recommend it for a DD though. I drive this car a lot, but it's not what gets me to work and back. I'd say that's a good cam for you from TSP. BTW, also remember to factor in a tune w/ dyno time to make it streetable. The tuning process will probably cost as much if not more than the cam itself. Luckily I got a good deal on hptuners and LC-1 wideband, so I'm slowly but surely getting the tuning thing down.

I have an MS3 in my car. I like it. I use it as a dd, but I have a six speed. I don't know how much difference that makes. Pulls awesome and makes good power.

T-rex here, I love it. Pulls hard as hell and with the right tune is very streetable. My car is my DD and I drive it everywhere.

Instead of asking for opinions (you will get tons of different ones) why not spend 25 bucks, and have Patrick G or someone who knows what they are doing spec one out for you. You will get EXACTLY what works with YOUR car and YOUR mods. The nice thing about a custom grind is that it is tailored to your vehicle! No wondering about will it perform, how will it sound, how will it drive, etc...you get to choose how it will do.

There are a ton of people here that have experience and knowledge out the ying yang, but what works for them might not work for you!

thanks for the advice. I haven't posted on this forum alot cause I mostly just read everything, so Who is Patrick G. and how can I contact him? A custom cam sounds like good idea cause I want a really choppy idle and still use it as a daily (2 things that don't seen to go together to well) but i also don't eant the cam to be so big that the tuner is forced to raise my idle so high that it just sounds like a loud, stock ls1. The sound of the idle is by far number 1 to me because i badly miss the sound of my old car that had a cam and I'll be a little less pissed at myself for selling it if i make this car sound similar. the around 400 rwhp is a secondary goal.

by the way: I have only put 6,000 miles on my car in the last 2 years so even though this is my daily, i drive it less than some people drive their toys.

Patrick G is a Moderator on this board. There is a link on his member profile for his cam services.

yes, you can't go wrong with patrick g. If you can afford some AFR's with the cam you will have a crazy combo

Thw WS6 store can do a custom comp grind cam for $355. Find out what cam you want to run and give them a call.

Get longtube headers before you get a cam.

Get a torque converter before you get a cam.

Make sure you get a good tune with the cam.
