Loss of power w/Straight pipes.

Loss of power w/Straight pipes.
When i first bought my car back in 04 straight pipe was one of the first things i did(with no cross-over) Just straight pipe! I've since added headers and some other stuff. But now reading up on here it seems no one else has straight pipe. I like the sound but im wondering if theres some power to be gained if i switch to an x pipe tru dual set-up? What do you think?

Well im not sure if its a loss of power cause theres alot of guys on here that run cut-outs. I believe if your a turbo car you want a muffler to create back pressure, but i could be wrong. I had open headers and loved it when i put on mufflers the ride felt different. But im not sure if its from getting quieter or gaining power. When i tuned my car at rev xtreme they told me had i had mufflers instead of open headers i would have seen a bit more torque in the lower rpms.

I actually need to fix my signature. My cutouts were on with my stock exhaust manifolds right after the cats. When i came in and put the longtubes in it eliminated where the cut-outs were and i just hooked it up to the straight pipe. So im running straight pipe after the headers. So would you say im leaving torque or hp on the table the way its set up now, as opposed to the x pipe

You want the exhaust to be pulled from each bank, thats where an x or h pipe comes in the picture.

I'vehad catbacks, X-pipe, and H-Pipe. And I'm all for the H. It gives more tq down low than X which gives more power ontop. But in reality I like being able to kill off the line. Not to forget, the sound is imo 10x better.its deeper, throatier, sounds like big block of old.
In the end..it's up to you. when i didnt have cats on my H setup i felt a noticeable loss of power downlow.. .. so i said ok cats it is.. and wow.. night/day improvement. i chose metal matrix ctas, outflow most and are quite compact. Plus. i pass visual, and still sound bad ***.

Do you have any sound clips of an h pipe vs. x? I guess i can get on ls1sounds.com cause im all for low end since the spray helps up top alot. :O) And your running cats now? Luckily where i live there isn't emissions so i can do without the cats.

Does anyone have pictures of a H pipe cross-over? Reason being is im wondering if the distance between the two pipes matters. Do they have to be close together? Cause my straight pipes Don't come closer together til the rear axle, and im aware that you want the crossover before the first mandrel bend or as close up as possible. Thanks for any help guys.

You could try and get a Mr. Gas universal H pipe, and just work it in to your application. They aren't that much if i can remember. They sell them @ www.jegs.com

Thanks chefman's_ta. Thats kinda what i was thinkin bout doing. But if i wanted to save and get the tsp x pipe. Do you think the distance inbetween pipes for the cross-over would matter?
\Oh and that sound clip sounds dirty.

I have a pacesetter lt/y pipe and 3ft of 3in straight piping after the y. Try running some new plugs. I have nitrous so i cant remember if its faster or slower than stock NA. Id assume its faster.
