Default Just thinking out loud

I want to build a new motor. The problem is I can't go much over 300ft/lb of torque or my transmission/cv joints will brake. The current engine is a 86 305 TPI, 224hp 214tq at the wheels currently. I would like to drop in a ls1 of some sort but I'm afraid the torque will be too much.

What options can you guys come up with. Destroking maybe. The car is super light 2000lbs with a very short gear ratio, 5th gear tops out at 120mph at 5500rpm.
Or just keep the old block and put a cam/headers on it and call it a day.

I would just put a 5.3L truck motor in it. They make good power and are much cheaper. I went 13.40's at 104mph in my 3400 pound jimmy with a stock motor. Should be lots of fun in a 2000 pound car.

If you do have the money and want an ls1...There are alot of dune buggys around here running ls1s. Alot of them use Porsche drivelines. I would think your can take it if they are running blown ls1s and hooking with paddles.
