Default Anyone heard about bypassing the powersteering pump?

I just got done reading and artical about a school the took a stock LS1 Camaro and got it into the 11's. It gives the details on how they did it. One thing that they did was bypass the powersteering pump with a gates belt k-060512. They claim a 3 tenths gain in the cars et. So i went out and got the belt but can't get it to fit. Your suppose to forgo the driverside idler pully and the lower alternator bolt. I can't get it to fit. I quess my question is has anyone tried this on there car? Will it reduce my et by 3 tenths and how do you get the damn belt on. I know someone smarter then I has tried this. Please let me know the 3 tenths would sure help me into the 11's. Thanks

I SERIOUSLY doubt you can shave .3 off an E/T by removing the power steering.

Twistedss, I agree with you but i would still like to try it out to see if there is any improvement in my et. Just think if it did work all those guys running 1300 to 1329 would be in the 12 second club. This page would fill up pretty quick.

I saw an article on hot rod, that they bypass the power steering on a 68 Nova and lowered their e.t .4 so its possible, in my 85 Monte Carlo SS I took the whole power steering off which was pretty heavy and it was .3 faster, so its possible

That would be a STEERING BOX + HEAVY LINKAGE...our cars have relativaly LIGHT ...Rack AND Pinion. 2 different setups....I seriously doubt you could squeeze more the 1/10th from all that hassle....considering if it is ever driven on the street..not worth it IMO.

I had the wrong belt. I bought the right one and put it on in less then 10 minutes. I'm going to the track on Tuesday to see if it helps.

Thanks for in info 3stgstocker. I'm trying to get into the 11's and every tenth counts! The only problem is the track by me is shutting down for the season. I'll have to wait until next year.
