how much can the LS7 clutch take???

i'm looking to build a 427 and i don't want to drop the coin on a spec 3+ unless i really need to...i'm going to go to a mcleod twin disk when i get the turbos, but for now i'm really hoping to just stick with the ls7 if it will work. do you think it will hold ~600rwhp

You make no sense, you have the money to build a 427 but you can dish out some money for a good clutch?!???

it's not a matter of having the money...i could spend the money on a spec now, but i'm going to go with a twin disk later on anyway. getting the twin disk now would be overkill for an n/a 427 and twin disk clutches are, from what i hear, a little more of a PITA than singles. ergo, it makes no sense to buy a really expensive single now (spec 3+) and replace it in a year or two with an even more expensive twin; why not buy a "good enough" single (i.e. the ls7) to hold for a year or two and then buy the twin later on when i need the extra holding power.
not to mention, also based on what i've heard, if you drive an ls7 conseratively it should last quite a while, probably more than the ~18 months it'll take me to save for the turbos and nitrous. and even if it doesnt, or i do smoke it out, it's still going to be cheaper to replace an ls7 disk than a spec 3+ disk or TWO mcleod disks.

Mine seems to be doing fine with my 508rwhp. It has only been putting up with that for the past week, but I am DDing the car and it has been fine. Went to the track Tuesday night too. I will try to keep everyone updated but so far so good.
No clutch dumps for me either. No traction if I do that, and still trying not to kill the 10bolt until I get a beefier rearend in the car next year.

I have an LS7 clutch on a Z06 TTI X Stage kit making 597rwhp. It hold without any issues..... When launching hard and runnig thru the gear aggressively, it does smell i little but has not slipped yet... I'm retuning this week and adding a pound or so of boost. The max limit were looking for is 650rwhp- Speed inc. says it will hold- but no slipping or high rpm clutch dumps. If you keep launches around 2k-2.5k, it should be fine for a while. Let's see when I get her back....

thats prolly right, you can drive it spiritedly with 500-600 horsepower but if you go to the strip with any kind of intention of good times and >3500k launches it WILL NOT hold.

On 400 rwhp I have launched off the limiter @ 6900 RPM for about 40 passes and so far cut a best 60' of 1.69 on the LS7 clutch. I have about 6k miles on it and so far its perfect. No slip, no smell, Great bite and stock pedal feel which is important around here with all the traffic.
600 rwhp? Hmm I do recall a post made when this clutch first arrived from one of the vendors who were testing it and found that for drag strip use it was good up to 500 rwhp but started to slip after that. For road course use I think it would probably be fine although it is a rather heavy flywheel you might want to think about an aluminum piece.
