Well this the tour for next Power Tour make plans now. Wooohooo.

I will be joing from Rochester to Madison with a few other guys.
It should be fun, anybody else hitting this up from MN/ND area?

I'm gonna try and do the entire trip this year...last year only made 3 stops...

I'm going to try to get on at Ames Ia. Hopefully have the car ready to go that I really want running by then. My 87 Shelby Charger I converted to rear drive with a GM L67 3800 and Camaro 5speed. Or I'll just have to take the Lesabre Turbo Coupe

im hitting at least the first three legs FOR SURE this year. Last year car kept breaking keeping me from it, not gonna miss it again.

Im going to try to go from Lincoln to the end I think. It would be my first tour, so it would be pretty sweet.

Hoping to do the long haul this year - planned on it last year but that got nixed and just did Racine to Little Rock, had a great time though.

Thanks for the offer of help. There is no shortage of that on the tour. If you pull over to get something out of the trunk of your car 30 cars will stop to see if your broken down.. it is a shame that the rest of the world is not like that...:nod:

The Tour is by far one of the best car things to do. I just hope it don't rain very much this year. Alot of street racing goes on if you can imagine that.

I have two buddies going this year, I am hoping to have my new transmission by then so I can go too. IDK if I am going to be able to afford it by then though so that may be a kick in the chops.

My Dad and I are going for the long haul. last year we went to the show in Kalamazoo it was awesome. I graduate from high school the week before so this is my graduation present. Im so excited.

u can preregister at hotrod.com. there is also a registration thing at the venues, but think its like $15 more to register at the venue, and its a PITA with how busy and hectic

just preregister, you show up and get a goodie bag and your stickers. sign up the 1st day atleast or you can't get the long haul stuff even if you do everything.

I'm not going to be able to do the long haul this year due to work but I am going to be at the last stop in Madison ,do i still need to register or can i just show up ?

if ur only doin a day u have a couple options. one is to be a pure spectator which is free and u park with the general public. there is also a single day powertour pass that i think is around 20. it allows u to park in the PT parking, and i think u get a goodie bag and the crap from the sponsors

I want to let everyone know that to preregister for hotels for sure. They run out quick.

I go on the tour every year and have never made one hotel reservation yet. I always find a hotel at a good rate and just wing it. If you plan too much you end up spoiling the whole thing. It is a road trip with 5000 other hot rodders. Anyway it works fine for me and I plan on keeping on doing it that way.:nod:

on a sidenote. those who are spraying. how many bottles are you taking with you?

i wouldn't count on E85 too much, id check the route and plan ahead ur gas stops. many parts of the tour are typically backroads and rural areas, or at least they attempt to.

No E85 in AR that I know of yet.

I'll be going as well. Don't know about long hauling yet as the wife won't be able to make it. I can't decide whether I want to drive the truck or the Camaro though.

it's still a ways off, but weather is TERRIBLE right now :thumbsdow i live in joplin, MO which is pretty much dead-nuts in the middle of the Tour's path....i'm sure it'll clear up by then....

I am going for the Long Haul again this year. This will be my 6th long haul! Always a blast! I will have quite a long haul before and after the Power Tour though being from NC, but it's worth it.

Does the tour usually travel on the interstates? Lots of racing at nights? How do they regulate that many hot rodders?

Most of the travel is not on the interstate highways. You get to see alot more of this great county on good ol 2 lane highways. The tour is pretty cool and laid back. Local and state law enforcement regulate what is going on where ever the tour is. I am not saying that no street racing goes on but it is not a smokey burnout contest going on at every red light in every town either. The Cops in general have been pretty kool in my experiences with them. But if you show your azzz you can get busted. Getting busted a long way from home can be an adventure to say the least.

They give you a route but you don't have to take it. Alot of people take the interstate too. Either way you will be among a lot of rot rodders. I have video of my friend in about 30 street races last year in it. It's a blast.

Tom whats up man, yes I will be leaving with my brother and dad, we are meeting my cuzin tyler(97 vette you raced) in fargo and are all heading down there. We can coordinate that time, im sure we are leaving somewhat early that thursday morning.

There are a bunch of vendors at each stop; most of them do the whole tour. Almost all of them hand out a bunch of free stuff too...Flowmaster, GM Performance parts, Year One, and MSD usually give away some pretty nice stuff, not just pens and coozies.

While this is true I have noticed that the stuff is getting cheaper every year which makes since. There are a ton more people on the tour every year now vs back in '99-'01...I guess I mostly mean the goody bag you get for signing up.

This year, I will be a more active to meet fellow members since we were busy on the last one taking all of those photos!

i'm new to the power tour thing so i'm not quite sure how it all works. I'd like to at the very least look at the cars when they're in ames. What day / time do the cars show up and leave ames? Do they arrive on the 11th or leave on the 11th?

The tour will arrive in Ames on the 11th, and leave on the 12th. The main group will usually start showing up around 4:00 pm.

It is only 225 miles to Ames and cars should start showing up in the 1 or 2 oclock range..I can only do 55-60 mph for so long and then it is time to do some "power touring"... :drive:

This also gives me an idea of the route they are planing between Ames and Rochester. I hope to see a good turn out at the drag strip, and some beautiful weather. I'll see you all in Ames. DaveJust show up, registration usually opens about 9 in the morning and closes about 5 in the evening if my memory is correct. Just make sure you pick up your credentials on saturday if your doing the long haul and remember to get them punched every day, (they usually have time clocks set up on yhe main stage) so you get credit for for being a "Long Hauler" in Madison.

My husband and I did the Tour last year for our Honeymoon. It kicked ass.

How strict are they with NHRA rules? If not very I will try and make a pass or so.

Not too bad for test and tunes and fun runs. They check seat belts, helmet, battery, coolant overflow, leaks and they ask how fast it runs. You sign a release and they give you a number. If it runs way too fast for your safety equipment they will just not let you make another pass. It is usaully $15 for as many passes as you want to make, but theat might change for an event as such.

No E85 in AR that I know of yet.

my cars not all the way done yet either. I have a new LS7 clutch/slave/master on the way so this year I can rip it up at the drag strips without having my clutch pedal sticking to the floor. does anyone thats going on the tour have ls1 tuning software that theyll have with on the tour??

Well I was hoping to be going but I will not have my tranny fixed by then I just can't afford it right now because I was laid off for a few months. So no Tour for me :-(

I'm ready to go, driving 72 chevelle 454 w/ turbo 350 and 3.73s. Gas stations will love me this year! I know, no LSx, but in my defense, my "fast" LS1 is blown up, my newest one isnt ready and the 02 SS vert isnt big enough for 3 people.

There will be several members of the Northstar Camaro Club hitting this one. We couldn't get the time off from life to do the long haul, but we will pickup in Ames and finish out. Many of our club members are going to pick up in Rochester.

Honestly I think I would rather be in that chevelle than most, not all but most, LSx cars. That is a gorgeous chevelle!!

Just figured out today that my new ring and pinion for my car apparently is the wrong one for a 12 bolt. That should make a fun last week before the long haul.

Are the shows more in the evening or the afternoon?...or both? What is a good time to arrive each day?....I think the expectation is "after 2:00". Are the drivers meetings in the morning important? 7-9 am! Anybody leaving from St. Louis?

The shows start whenever people get there. Try to get there sooner rather than later, but it depends on traffic, the route, how many times you stop, if you cut off the official route for a short cut...etc. I have gotten to the venues as early as 1pm and as late as 6:30 pm.
Morning meetings *usually* aren't important, but they occasionally announce direction changes. We usually have one person in our group go to give us the scoop.

I have been reading this post and look forward to seeing some of you guys on the tour. Will be working my companies booth for the tour but also will get to drive some of the routs with our truck. If you see a little 67 scuffed flat back c-10 with a procharged LS1 stop by and say Hi.

We have had an incredibly wet spring...but just amazed it is hanging on all the way to June!! Lets just hope for the best.

I think the shop finally got the rattles out my true duals with CME today!!! Now just cleaning and packing for the rest of the week.

Come by and see us on Hot Rod Power Tour 2008. We recently got our shop truck up and running with the 6L90E and wanted to let everyone know that we’ll be Long Hauling it this year…so come by and see us!

The truck is a 1968 Short/Wide Chevrolet Pickup with our L92 TI HO with VVT (Variable Valve Timing) crate engine that makes 525HP/485TQ. The transmission is a 6L90E 6 speed automatic. Engine and transmission are controlled with our M-90 ECM. As far as we are aware, we are the only engine controls company that is able to control this engine/transmission combination.

Here is the data from the engine dyno. This engine package makes for a pretty mean truck with plenty of grunt when you need it. Notice that it makes over 400 ft.-lbs. way down at 2500 RPM thanks to the VVT.

I hope anyone who traveled toward Little Rock today traveled safe. It was a great day till the rain started when we were in Illinois. The car started going sideways down the freeway so we pulled off and got a hotel.

Weather is nice here right now. Pretty muggy tho. I went and registered this evening seen several from last year already. There was about a 1000 or so this evening already. I expect a little smaller turn out from last year due to gas prices. I don't think a little smaller will be bad tho.

I made it here safe and sound. I'm at the hotel already trying to cool off. Man it's hot out for a fatboy like me.

here and its HOT.. Had to dive into the Pool to cool off after a hot day.. and its not over yet.. got plastered last night here.. good stuff. a lot of nice ridez out here. My TA didnt make it. We couldnt get the Trans Rebuilt in time.. thats a bummer so I road with my boy in his RST. More pix and vidz ops.

I agree it's hot it should be a little cooler tomorrow.

Springfield was a blast! The burnout session on glenstone tonight was fun!

I have tons and tons of video from the burnouts and esp wiht the Blazer or what ever it was blowing a tire. Cops left everyone alone which was really really cool. I will up load stuff later today. I had a blast on the tour. THings in LIttle Rock should have been planned a little better, and for the cruise nights maybe maps and or road names to cruise on so we all can display our rides.

I hope to make it for the whole thing next year. Already starting to save and plan for it. Cant wait till the route/towns for next year are put out.

Met the other guy (can't remember his name) from Bad Boys Racing with the black corvette from L.R. while in Rochester. Nice guy and sweet car also. Glad to see you guys made it home safe.

I got home yesterday afternoon ALMOST without incident. Only 20 miles from home and I ran over a block of wood and bent 2 of my Fikse wheels :cry: I caught a glimpse of it a fraction of a second before I ran it over and I think it was a 4x4 block!!! Oh well, could have been worse. Tires still held air so I made it home. Called Fikse to see how much they may cost to fix...then I called the insurance co. :(

It was good to meet and visit with you. Not sure if my car will put out good enough numbers for the Dynomax supernationals but since it really isn't to far I may still make the trip up there as long as I don't have any scheduling conflicts.

Now I just need to detail the car again and put it back in the garage to give it a good long break.

I raced the Turbonetics car a couple of times and spanked that ass bad. I raced several others also. A Procharged 69 Camaro and spanked his ass. I had alot of fun. Next year they announced that the Tour will stop at GM development center.

02SSLE, Badass car. I saw your car on the whole tour and was next to you driving from the show to the hotels back in Lincoln. Met the other guy (can't remember his name) from Bad Boys Racing with the black corvette from L.R. while in Rochester. Nice guy and sweet car also. Glad to see you guys made it home safe.

Did anyone happen to get a picture of me pulled over in Richland Center, WI or know someone that did get a picture of it? I saw a few people snapping shots when I was waiting for my ticket.

Generally it is pretty hard to get a ticket on the tour...the cops are usually pretty tollerant.....you must have been a real baaaaad boy...whadya do a john force style smokey burnout..:drive::burn:

There was a TON of people getting tickets in Topeka. I know the hotel strip that most of the PT guys were at, there were close to 6 or 7 cops just sitting, and waiting. Mostly because we were having stoplight fun with the PT cars, and whatever else was out. I don't think Topeka PD appreciated the smoked up street either... it got near impossible to see at one point.

lol, not quite John Force style but I did do a burnout. If I had known that I would've gotten a ticket I would've done a better one. :bang:

A coupe of years ago on the 06 Tour we were in Perry, Georgia..a small town with the Georgia State Fair grounds so there lots of motels... that night there were abour 3000 hot rods hangin out on the streets of Perry ... I mean there were kool cars everywhere it was like a movie scene...a guy pulls out of the gas station and does a genuine John Force :burn: for about a half a block and the blue lites pull him over and pretty much told him not to make them look bad and let him go...he was a luckly dude..cause on a scale of 1 to 10 his :burn: was about a 11.5 ... like I said the cops are usually pretty kool unless you make them look bad in front of the public...sorry for your misfortune..ya ought save the citation and have it framed as a 2008 power tour momento..:thumb:

I'll probably end up framing it. I had it sitting on my dash in Madison. My violation was "Display of Power". I was polite and everything to the cop. I think they were just collecting revenue for the city. I only did it because I was giving into peer pressure. There was a crowd of people on the side of the street encouraging people to do burnouts and I noticed that there were already two or three sets of black marks so I just briefly lit them up and rode it out. The never got sideways or exceded the speed limit. Oh well. Point is I did it so I get to pay for my mistakes.

You're not the only one who got a ticket for 'Display of Power in Richland Center, a friend of ours in a red 35th SS got one too. I got pulled over for roasting through 2 gears in Lincoln, NE. The cop was hiding at the end of the parking lot and watched the entire thing. I got a warning :)
