Confused
Whats Up! Here's the story. I have an lt1 that I was told came out of a 95 caprice. I had the parts guys at work run the # off of the computer. And the computer came up as 93-02 camaro/firebird. Now i am confused. Is there any way to tell if the motor came out of a caprice or a camaro? And I have 2 water pumps that came with it. One water pump has more inlet/outlets than the other. Which one do I use? thanks

Starting in 98 the LT1 was replaced by the LS1 in Camaro/'Birds. Somebody or some computer is on the fritz!
If a magnet sticks to the (iron) head it's not from a Camaro. Also make sure it's really a 5.7 and not the little 4.3L V8. The block has the size cast in it.

Are the heads the only difference between a caprice motor and a camaro/bird motor. If thats the case then i could get a set of aluminum heads correct?

Yeah but you have no reason to. In stock form the iron heads actually flow better. Now if you're gettin em ported out then yeah you want some aluminum ones I believe.

They already covered the heads, but the cam is different too, very well suited too the 4200+lbs cars they were put in with 2.56-3.08 gears and 1400 stall converter. With proper reprogramming the b-body cam actually makes quite similar peak HP too the f-body cam which leads me to wonder wether the f-body cam was designed to limit lowend torque to save your glass axle.
The shortblocks are identical.

The most popular fiirst mods for LT1s are a cold air intake, longtube headers, and an exhaust system of your choosing (catback or true duals. Just avoid flowmaster). From there it really depends on your goals.
Good man. I forgot all about that.

Where would/could i get this reprogramming done? Also does anyone know what the stock hp was for this motor? And are there any books on the lt1?

Stock HP for the b-body LT1 was 260hp/330tq think the f-body was 275/320 but it had higher octane tuning and did not have to be grandpa quiet like the Caprice. The Caprice was 87 octane tuning and you couldn't tell they were running they were so quiet, the intake(in front of the TB) was very restrictive and the exhaust while dual was very restrictive as well, guys have found like 20hp in catbacks.

Is it possilble to get 400hp out of this motor. And btw i am putting this thing in my s10 And sorry for all the questions. i'm a
