Default Rear end = dead what should i do?

I found out today that my rear end is on its way out. The guy said that is sounds like the bearings are going bad and it is whineing when they take it up to speed. He said it's probably gunna run me $3900 for a rebuilt one and $2900 for a used one. what should I do. I don't know if I even make $3900 in a year. What are my options for fixing this when it finally lets go, I don't much about the actually rear end and how to fix it.

12 bolt, 9 inch or Dana S60. They're all pretty much in the 2k neighborhood and perform much better than the crap 10 bolt.

r u serious... they want to charge you 3900??? you could buy one used on this board for under 500 bucks.

your best option is definitly a 12 bolt or 9" as previously mentioned...

Hell for 3900 you could buy a car and take the rear out of it... lol

Just get a 9" and call it a day... Scott and DLS is the man.

I picked the car up. It sounds like the typical noise I've seen people say they hear. It's a high pitch whineing sound kind of like a dish washer. I didn't know squat about F-body's when I bought and it's had this noise for the year and half I've had the car. I don't have money to fix it so I'm just gunna ride on it for now and hope I've got the money saved up for when it does let go.

I think i'd start using a different shop. If you take it to a reputable shop should be ~500-600 to get it rebuilt if you are really in a bind.

They are trying to rip you off big time, you can get a badass 9" and driveshaft for like 3k. You can pick something a little more basic for 2400. and you can get a used pos 10bolt for a couple hundred bucks

Planning on racing, beating on it, need it to last for a long time? Invest in a 12 bolt, 9 inch, or S60.

Poor, just using it as a daily driver? Buy a complete used 10 bolt rear end off someone for $150-$400.

And PS, find another shop, that one is CRAZY expensive.

It would help for us to know what state you're in. Call a sponsor shop in your area.

If you dont make 3900 in a year, I would suggest buying a $500 Honda Civic. Seriously. having a shop fix this problem with a used 10-bold (which costs hella shipping) is going to ruin you. Sucks, man.

Go to a bank and ask for an auto repair loan. You'll need a written estimate.

[Chris Tucker voice]Don't eva.. eva eva eva eva eva eva go back to that shop. Ok![/Chris Tucker voice]

J/k, they're trying to rip you off big time. I just had mine rebuilt because of a pinion bearing going out and it cost me $600. I would've loved to go ahead and swap in a 9", 12 bolt or S60, but I didn't have the money saved up.

If you were closer you could buy the spare rear that I have. It only has 13k miles on it. I would've put it in my car, but I didn't have the time to have the machine work done to convert it to a 3 channel rear. The rear is a 4 channel btw.

I'm in Northern Va. We've been using this shop because they are pretty good about everything else except when it gets into this big stuff. I believe he was giving my estimates with labor included but even still I was like hell no I ain't gunna gring it to you. I'll try to get a second opinoin from another shop or just get a used or new one.

I may be able to get a lone from my grandparents. They are both retired so....and they don't collect intrest.

Listen to this man here.

If your not building the car up anymore I'll suggest spending 200 or so and getting another 10 bolt, with the mods you have on basically stock power you have no need for a 9in or 12 bolt IMO, that is unless more is to come.....but judging by your lack of funds for this, I would guess not.

Just some financial/real world advice for you. I know people like to see nice things go into F-bodys, but sometimes it's just not practical.

yeah, this guy's pretty smart for a colts fan.

you don't need a high end rear with your mods and lack of funds.. a replacement will be fine for a few more years.

I just saw a used rear with 3:42's from an M6 in the midwest section last month NOT sell for 400 bucks.

Got to the junk yard, pay 200-300 for the new rear... make sure its one from a front end collision, pref. with low miles.

You can start in the morning on saturday and be cruisin' saturday night. Had to swap it on my car... its not bad, but the e-brake clip is mild bitch.

yeah like everyone else has said for what you have just get a new/used 10 bolt but if you do have plans of going with a more hp/tq setup then i would go with a 12 bolt or a 9in perferably the 9in if it was me. but if you feel you have to go this route i would contact some of the sponsers (sp!) on here . I see all the time where the guys over at EPP have pretty good deals on new moser rear's what ever you do good luck man sorry to hear of your troubles and that someone is trying to jip you
