Default th400 shifter mounting question.

Im fixing to do an a4 to th400 swap. I went with the B&M hammer shifter. I have an M6 upper console and I just pulled the factory a4 shifter. i tried to test fit the shifter without actually mounting it yet, then put the m6 upper console on. It looks like it is gonna want to hit the console shifter hole area. Do I need to hammer or cut out the raised sheetmetal area where the factory a4 shifter bolted to, to lower the shifter some? it just seems to me that all the pics ive seen m6's will have kind of an inverted area to mount the shifter to. Sorry guys, i tried the search and most all previous threads with pics i find are m6 to th400 swaps. Pics? advice? thanks.
