Default Home built Hot Parts Come on In!

Every time i think about upgrading my 2000 t/a FI stays in my mind, does anyone have any experence on building there hot parts except for the headers, i will be buting thoes. And if so how did it go? I would like to do the same for a single turbo kit. My goal would be low 10s in the 1/4 at full weight with a built 4L80E.
Can i get some pictures of your built hot parts any turbo style.

Thank you.

The reason for my building the hot parts is because i like to build what goes on my car, and i like doing all the hard work so that i can have credit for it.

I built my own headers but would suggest using the 6.0 manifolds!!! Its real cheap and easy and the work very well!!!

I would also suggest you use the truck manifold's. go to the sticky section and look in the truck manifold's. There is a bunch of info in there for you. Some of the fastest f-body's that are turbo'd run truck manifold's!

Aren't those manifolds really restrictive?
And is there anyway to keep my A/C, i should have added that in the beginning of the thread.

Hunter: i was looking at your sig. You have 9xx rwhp and run a 10.7xx. Whats your weight? And do your wheels have trouble hooking. I just would think that having 9xx rwhp you would be faster in the 1/4. Nice ste up by the way!

Did you look at my mph? I am trapping 143.31 mph. My car is on stock suspension with a stock 6 speed and a 10bolt and 315-35-17 nitto's. Traction is an issue.
My weight is also 3850 with me in it.
As far as the manifold's being restrictive, yes a little, but they retain the heat needed to make consistant power, and will not crack like some of the header style's will!

LOL restrictive. The ohio boys are making 1500+ HP with the truck manifolds and have gone 7's on em....plenty of flow for nearly any of us guys here on the board.

A/C nope, but options might be opening up with the addition of the new BMR turbo K member.

143.31 trap!
1500 hp

Thats crazy esp on stock suspension!

Now i a going to build a low compression LS2 al block 402, 4" x 4" with a pair of mild ported LS6 heads. I was looking into a GT35R turbo, still doing reserch, but i want to keep my car full weight and be in the low to mid 10s. Will that be enought turbo, i looked in to an 88 but that almost cuts it, and with the GT35R i still have room to play unlike the 88.

I was orgional going to go all motor until i did some reserch, and found out a lot i didn't want and want to know, so i talked to eastside and they told me to do some reserch on FI.

Some people may disagree with me, But I would go with an iron block, due to the aluminum block under alot of boost distort's from what i have read and heard. Not 100% sure on that, but it is worth looking into!

I'm building my hot parts right now. Im using the truck manifolds. I really wanted to keep the a/c but truck manifolds are much easier and are proven performers. I am keeping all of my a/c parts to re-install when i make my own headers. The car will be 100% street car.

I looked into an AL LS2 block, and it can only handle about 650-700hp. Some guys have done 1000hp and it stayed intack. Apperently the LQ9 is a proven performer, it can handle about 1000hp. And its about 400-500 $$$$$$ cheaper but on the other hand it weighs 82 more pounds. So the LQ9 is a better choice!

One more question, will i have to relocate the radiator, i know i will have to buy an aftermarket one.

Your radiator should be fine? Depend's on the size turbo though! The block will handle more than 1000hp. Ohio boy's are at 1500hp on there iron block!

Haha try messin with him on the street!!!

You might have to end up cutting your core support out to and set your radiator upright!! Theres a great circle track radiator and fans that fit perfect if you go that rout!! Just let me know and I can find the part numbers!!

Not true at all. Many guys running 700+ with LS1 blocks and just as much with LS2. If 1k hp is really your goal, look into an iron block.

I'm 9.4 with truck manifolds and 2001 era LS6 block, 8:1. You can easily run mid 9's with an aluminum block.

Check out my thread in drag racing tech(25.5 Mustang Build) On page 1 or 2 there are some very good pics of the hot side parts as they were built.
