Autotap / LS1 Edit and OBDII Do the autotap and ls1edit programs use the exact same cables to run from the car to the laptop? And if so, is there a way to purchase the software only? It seems both companies offer only a package with the hardware/software bundled.

Re: Autotap / LS1 Edit and OBDII Your question got me to thinking that since there is only one DLC you can't use LS1Edit AND EFILiveV5 at the SAME TIME. How about using a cable adapter that would "Y" the two of them together. Of course this would require an interface for the interfaces like a protocol arbitrator.

LS1Edit does not.
The on-board class 2 network is designed to handle multiple nodes. Each node only requires two wires: signal and signal ground. Obviously most also need power and chassis ground as well.
You can have multiple external test tools connected at one time.
Each test tool must have a unique node ID.
Currently, you cannot change the node ID used by EFILiveV5 and I believe it clashes with LS1Edit. I think we both use $F1. EFILiveV6 allows you to specify a different ID - in the range $F1..$FD which is reserved for external test equipment nodes.
If both tools transmit a request and then "look" for a response there will be confusion as to which response belongs to which tool. Because both responses will be addressed to the same node ID.
Anyway ID's aside you can still hook up multiple tools simultaneously.
If you only use one at a time then it will work fine.
As well as the warnings that accompany LS1Edit, NEVER, NEVER attempt to use EFILive and LS1Edit simultaneously if/when you are reprogramming your PCM. If you do you may (probably will) mess up the upload - worse case scenario your PCM may be rendered unusable and possibly unable to be reflashed.
The SAE J1850 VPW specification has built in message arbitration which makes it very easy to add new nodes.
Just splice in another connector, it's that simple.
For EFILiveV5 you should include pins:
2 J1850 VPW signal
4 chassis ground
5 signal ground
16 +12V unswitched (i.e even when ign is off)

The cable for both includes a black box that translates serial communications with the PC into ODBII stuff (or vice versa). Both software applications are also licensed to the specific serial# that has been written to the box. You cannot even swap cables with a friend…
Also, there is no reason to have ls1edit and EFI-Live/autotap hooked up at the same time.
