Default Automatic Get me more MPH????

I have a 6 speed now and if I switch to a TH400 will the auto get me more mph?? Some i have talked to say yes and some say no? I am confused. Anybody from experience know!

I would say no for several reasons particularly with the 400 , 1- lower final ratio one to one in third gear. Add to that a high stall and no lockup and you have considerable waste in converter slip. At your HP and Torque level if want to go auto and still retain efficiency I would consider the 4L80E as a good alternative.

most people loose a few mph(1-3 from what I have seen) but they get a drop in ET also

I am doing the same but going with a 4L80E instead of the TH400. I have heard of losing MPH but getting big gains in ET's. A friend just put a nice stall on his 4L60E from stock and went from a 12.78 to a 12.13. So the stall does a lot i think.

I went from 120.4 mph to 125.8 mph going from M6 to TH400. I also changed the cam though from a 230/234(M6) to the TRex (TH400). I don't see any M6's out there at my track out MPH'ing me though with a similar setup and weight...

Chris, locking my converter, it "SHOULD" take me about 14psi to run your mph.....we will see soon enuff so you can do some comparing
