Default Header debate in Iraq

So..Ive been a member for a year or so, but dont think Ive ever posted up.
Im a marine, in Iraq right now, collecting some cheddar..plotting out how to mod my 99ssM6. Current debate with my friend sitting across from me, what LTs to get. He's going qtp. I had my mind set on pacesetter coated for a while now, but hes telling me coated are crap, and go all out, slp or qtp stainless. I was hoping to get a mean set of headers for 400, and get the tsp TD's. Now im not exactly on a budget, but more a mission to save money..
It seems the general consensus is pacesetters are solid. He's saying otherwise. Opinions? Could anyone shed some light for me?

pacesetters are good for the price, you could still get the XS stainless LTs for $500 and those are stainless steel. Many will swear by QTP, Kooks and ARH for quality and stainless but if you are on a budget and still want stainless, XS is the way to go but if you dont care, then pacesetters are a good choice still. It just depends on what you want to spend.

if 5hp is worth the extra $300 to you, then do it, otherwise, that money could be spent elsewhere.

I got the same setup you are thinking of getting (Pacesetters and TSP TDs). I would def get the TSP again, but if I had more money at the time I'd have just gone straight for some American Racing headers. I won't comment on SLP because I've never seen a set in person so I can't give my worthwhile $.02. Pacesetters are great for the money, but there are better options out there if you're looking to spend. Good luck, sound clip in sig.

If you're looking to keep the budget a little lower, go for the coated Pacesetters, they fit and they work, I've had no problems with mmine and its been close to 2 years they've been on the car
If you want to spend the $$$ then Stainless is for you, go for the QTPs or Kooks
BTW there isn't much difference in HP of one header over the other
FWIW I'd get the stainless one coated as well, acts as a thermal barrier to keep underhood temps in the sane level

First off, thanks for serving our country.

For headers, I would atleast get stainless steel, otherwise after awhile they start to look bad. I went with KOOK's headers, they slipped right in and still look new. I figure do it right the first time.

yeah for him to even say SLP is kinda odd, everybody talks bad about them. alot of people seem to love the XS stainless LTs...great price and great welds. they look well built. BTW, where are you stationed? i'm out at Anaconda.

You really can't go wrong with any longtube honestly. However some tend to hold up to the weather a lot better. That is really a concern for most people...how they are going to look. I never pop my hood for anyone so I have uncoated FLP's and couldn't be happier with them.

If you have big plans for the car then go with American Racing, Kooks, or QTP.

If you just want some boltons then do pacestters.

Definately go with a stainless steel setup... If down the road, you have future mod-plans definately go with qtp or kooks.... Either spend the extra 3 or so hundred, or go with pacesetters for a cheaper route....

i'm happy with my jet hot (same as hooker) coated LT'S , the Y pipe with cats however i was dissapointed that the high flow cats fit inside the y pipe and WIL NOT pass a visual inspection. i'm ok in minnesota but i'm thinking about moving to arizona. i paid about 900 for both / total, and headers still shine bright 1.5 yrs later! also good / great ground clearance which some headers have a problem with. just my 2 cents

Ya I haven't noticed alot of difference between longtubes, besides the bling factor of them saying KOOKS or QTP on them. A fried of mine had the SLP and hated them especially after he bent the collector going over a speed bump. But like orange said my hood only comes open at the shop for a select few so coated pacesetters here and LOVE 'em!

Edelbrocks are a great option to check out. Great headers at a good price.

I love my jet-hot's, and they come with a 3 year coating warranty. but it looks like your decision is either pacesetters or kooks/qtp. my decision landed me right in the middle.
