i changed my oil the other day putting in the same mobil 1 10w-40 that was in it all summer allong with a new filter. now when my 99 T/A is at a low idle the oil pressure needle wont hold still and will be slightly shaky. as soon as i accelerate it smoothens out and gets more than plenty of pressure. (more than it used to get on the old oil) is my oil pump taking a crap??? or any ideas??/?

My needle on my truck shakes while i am at idle, but a new oil pressure switch fixed that problem. It did exactly what you were describing. I would start there before ripping apart the front of your engine to replace it.

I know the sensor is on the back of the engine block behind the intake manifold, I have not done one on an LS1 yet, so i do not know if you can get to it without removing the intake. I am sure there is a way, but you probably have to be tiny and very nimble. Also, you will need a special socket too i believe.

If you want to try replacing the sensor you can do it with the intake on - just need the socket.

Replace the sending unit before you do anything else. It's relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. I've had problems with sending units (both oil pressure and coolant temp.) numerous times with questionable readings on the gauges and it was cured with a new sending unit. Use a mechanical guage to verify the reading before replacing the sending unit if you want to be sure.
