chances are the studs/nuts are rusted in pretty good and will most likely snap, but if you're changing them its not too bad if you have new bolts and stuff to go with it

Are the cats welded in or bolted?

Bolted. They are very easy to take off/swap out.

and like stated above, the bolts WILL snap. After taking off 3 sets i think i have a total of 6-7 that did not break. (and that's out of 18 bolts.) You can use liquid wrench but it barely does anything. It's easier to just remove the studs or what will remain of them and use bolt/washer/nut. Just pick some up at the hardware store.

I just removed my stock cats when I did headers over the weekend and not one cat bolt broke. Guess I got lucky but then again my car has 49,000 miles.

WD40 and a rubber mallet will be your best friend to get the bolts loose.

mine had 80K on it and I broke a bunch of them.. but I was using an impact on all of them and didn't care about saving the bolts or anything so I didn't use a sing;e drop of oil or anything on the bolts.

If you have a handheld torch you can heat them. Usually helps a lot. But like everyone is saying its usually a lost cause.

My car had 25,000 miles. I just put on the impact and most snapped off.

This is the best I have..
Spray em w/ some PB Blaster and let it soak for an hour or so, respray if you want. I didn't break ANY bolts and they came off easy.. Of course the car only had 21k miles on it.. Take the Y down first then the cats are a little more accessible. I had to take the manifold down anyway since I was doing headers.
