changing plugs from underneath
is it really that much easier?? my car has some seriously close tolerances between the coil pack brakets and cowl, i tried for an hour to get my hand back there and i couldnt pull it off. are the pass side easier to get to from the bottom...i didnt even think to try.
...
so yes i've been driving around with one side of new plugs and one side of cruddy old ones

uhm, i dont think so.
take off the coil packs (the whole bracket, not each coil) and thats how i do it. Driver side is cake, but i have to take off the passenger side coils to get the plugs

8 definately is.
Might have to move/bend some heat shielding but those are small screws.
I always only manage to get 8 lying on my back with my feet under the front bumper using my right hand.
I think it works better than from above.

I do it from above and it has gotten fairly easy over time. Remove AIR, EGR, coil packs, and brackets...you have all kinds of room.
Also, a 1" extension will knock an hour off of the time required....it's soooooo much easier with a 1" extension.

That last bolt on the coil packs is a pain in the butt. Go to lowes or any other store that sells tools and pick up a 10mm gear wratchet. That will make it SO much easier because once you get on the bolt you dont have to take the wrench off.
Also like other people said, take the air crap off too. It doesnt do anything useful but it takes up space and makes some things hard to get at.

yea i did my header install without taking coilpacks off and what not. recently took of coilpacks for spring swap and realised how much easier it would have been on me to to header install etc by removing the coil pack bracket which took a wopping 5 mins..
easiest to go through the top IMO

Once you get that bolt off the coil pack bracket on the passenger side you can just leave it off so it will make removing the bracket easier in the future.
I just did a header swap and replaced my plugs while I was in there. I did the plug on cylinder 8 from the bottom and the rest from the top.

I recently had to take my passenger side header off and pulled my coil bracket off to get to the header bolts and plugs. I found that the stubby gear ratcheting wrenches worked best. My tool box now has stubby wrenches and a stubby 3/8" drive socket wrench too. Gotta love stubby tools for working on the passenger side.
Also, to keep from scratching the crap outta my hands, I ground off the tops to all of those coil pack bolts that looked more like spikes. You gotta love Dremel tools too.

i dident even remove to last 10mm bolt from the coil bracket i just losened it and took the rest of the bolts out. now it will just slide up out of the way then i just put the firts bolt back in a im done. works every time. also swivel head ratchets are you friend and i also have one of those small ratchets like to stubby ones. if i dont take my time i can do it in about 45 min maybe even faster.

we did mine from underneath, but that was because we did the header install and the plugs were sitting right there. Good luck with that other side, i heard that its a b!tch to get number 8.
