Default any way to get rid of that sound??

You guys know that sound/noise that cars make once bigger gears are put while driving, well is there any way that can be reduced or entirely gotten rid of? My car is loud as it is and sometimes that sound the gears make just gets to my nerves! Especially when doing 70+ on the freeway with those RPMs soaring high!

I know everyone says Richmond gears make more noise than others but I had just hoped that maybe there was somethin to reduce the noise a bit(like a certain diff. oil). I guess I'm screwed! Well at least they're tougher longer lasting gears. My first pair lasted me bout 6 years before they broke; and i gave 'em hell!

if they are really that loud i would have to say they are not set up correctly.

what are your set up specs, and pictures of your gear pattern?

To tell you the truth, I have no idea bout the setup specs! My cousin does all the work on my car at his shop and he knows his **** so I doubt they're setup incorrectly. They make the same amount of noise that my first pair made so I guess it ain't that big of a deal.

I've heard Richmonds are noisy no matter how well they're installed.

Richmonds = noisey

Solution = Think of the noise as like having a supercharger whine, works for me at least

I just put a 'used' set of richmonds 4.56s that i picked up at a swap meet for 25 bucks.They're running quiet as I'm familiar with setting up gears.I shimmed and adjusted until I got pattern and preload that I wanted and noise level is very low.Engine rpm is high as it's 4.56s in an A4.

just a matter of getting lucky. We just installed 2 9" rear ends exactly alike and one is quite and the other sounds like a blender. Both broke in for 3- 15 min reverse and foward runs with the car on jacks and the suspension loaded. YES always break in- in reverse first.
