Default T56 carnage! (PICS)

Well, ya see, whut happen wuz....
1. 2 or 3 12.4 et passes at Darlington. The best runs I'd ever done, of course! What could go wrong?
2. John Force style burnout on the, as it turned out, final pass of the day.
3. launched hard, it was going to be another good run. Went for 2nd gear and-CRUNCH!...klakady-clunk klackady-clunk. Good thing I had a drive shaft safety loop.

This lil LS1 as a healthy apitite for drivetrain! (5 clutches, 3 rearends, and soon to be on it's 3rd Transmission)

I had this tranny rebuilt by T56 Rebuilds about 20,000 miles ago. Anybody familiar with their warranty?

Get a floor mounted tq arm if you don't have one already,it will take the stock off of the tail shaft.

You are at 385 at the back wheels? And you've gone through 5 clutches, 3 rear ends and going on the 3rd T56? Sounds like you got some major issues... or you are just beating the living crap out of that car every day. Damn.

Indeed!

I have 507, broke two posi units and one set of gears. Only broke 1 clutch, never broke a tranny. And that is running 11's and 10's

Agreed ....... the only other time I have seen similiar damage like that was a customer that had a twisted yoke on the driveshaft . The yoke could not compress into the housing properly because of the twisted splines so when the pinion pulled it crowded the the driveshaft and BOOM out goes the lights .

Yeah the warranty doesn't cover that. Looks like driveshaft caused some major issues.

As far as all the other drivetrain goes, I have put 160,000 on my car since I bought it new back in 1998. It's seen a lot of strip time. The clutches (2 stockers, a Spec 3 & a LS7) just wore out along with the synchros in the original T56. I replaced the 10 bolt with another 10 bolt after the carrier broke. After that one showed signs of going out, I went to a 12 bolt. This is the first time I have shattered anything.
Sounds normal to me for a car that has been driven like a Camaro should be driven for the last 9 years.

Look down the splines inside the yoke and see if they look twisted .

I'll check on that. The drive shaft did come from a 10 sec A4 car.
To be honest, I think the LCA relocation brackets (bolt in) I put on did it. After they were put on the whole rear axle was pushed rearward about a half inch. To fix it I ordered some adjustable LCAs from FBodyMotorsports but those bastards didn't get them to me untill over 2 months later! I should not have drove it till I got them on and adjusted.

You have 60 more horsepower than me and 60000 miles more than me. I still cant comprehend going through so many clutches, rears, and transmissions. I'm on my second clutch (stock one went at about 85000), I have the stock 10-bolt with different gears and LSD (stock LSD seemed to be pretty shot, lots of one wheel burnouts), and the original trans, which CAN be notchy when its cold. You must treat that car like ****.

I have a T56 rebuilds tranny as well. You are covered up to a year as long as you are within their horsepower limit. A stage 4 is limited to 700rwhp. That's some serious damage for a car putting out around 385rwhp. I think the damage is due to something other than the tranny. Bad ange on the DS or too much stress from the TQ arm.

You are dead wrong. I have never wrecked the car, the fluids all stay fresh. The motor is in great shape. No leaks any where.

Your comment is very offensive. You have never seen my car. My wife would beg to differ about the car getting treated like ****.

The pinion Angle was set to -2 degrees, I have a UMI tunnel mounted torque arm. I agree. With the rear end sitting the way it was the yoke was not fully inserted in the tranny. The Ram Street Twin Disc clutch I have in it probably didn't help much either. That thing does not slip at all.

When you say the yoke was fully inserted , do you mean the bell part was flush with the tailhousing or did you have say 3/4" still from the bell to the rear seal ?

I edited my post. Before I put on the adjustable LCAs, the yoke was about a half inch pulled out from stock setup. But, I'm still not sure what caused the tranny to do this.

**** happens. You ain't racing if you ain't breaking stuff.
