Default Solid Roller Cam suggestions for 434" SBC, Vortech T-trim

Hi All,

I'm upgrading my Vortech-blown, intercooled 383 to a Motown block-based 434, and I am looking for cam suggestions.

I currently am very happy with the Comp Xtreme Street Roller in 230/236 @ .050"/112lsa/net lift .575/.584 in the 383, but adding 50ci is going to require at least a step up in cam.

Here are my top possibilities, all from the solid roller Comp Xtreme Street lobes:

236/242 on a 114

242/248 on a 115 or 116

236/248 on a 115

I'll be running the same T-trim and intercooler, single plane Holley EFI manifold, 72# injectors, Holley 950 Pro wideband EFI.

I'm keeping my current ported Edelbrock E-Tec 200 Vortec-style heads and 1 3/4" Hedman LT headers.

On the 383, I am making about 11# of boost, so on the 434 I figure I'll get around 8-9#.

Which cam do you like for this, or do you have another suggestion? Not switching from solid roller - I love them, so no hydraulic roller suggestions, please.

The main reason for this upgrade is that I felt I was running out of headroom on the GMPP 4-bolt block. Even with studs and a short fill, this block has its limitations, and I really didn't want to find them the hard way.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

TTT for you, curious myself what would be a good solid roller.

Off topic, looking through your website, see you show a machine shop in Santa Clara, I'm not all that far off. Is he familiar with LSx engines?

Sorry, Dan, he's not an engine guy at all. Maybe motorcycles, and he can make any part from scratch, but he doesn't run an auto machine shop.

Tiago, I always have good luck going a little smaller on cams rather than a little bigger. What would you actaully recommend?

Ok, cool. I might check him out later anyway as I might need an custom bracket made.

i like the 242/248 u posted.ive driven a 346 ls M6 car with a very similar cam except alot closer LSA and it was a bit much on that setup for driveability but on your setup i think it would be nice and make alot of power

Well, I pulled the trigger and went with the 242/248 Comp Xtreme Street Roller lobes on a 115LSA. Also paid $100 extra for Hellfire rings. Now I'm thinking I should upgrade my headers from 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" to get the most out of this beast.
