Cool Upgraded stock Sail speakers?

Has anyone had experience with these "upgraded" stock speakers? The claim a better coating to handle the power of the monsoon. I pulled mine out and it doesn't look like it's the cone that blew. Part # 16217721

My backseat (sail? -is sail the ones in the trunk or back seat? What are the backseat ones called?????) speakers blew and I want something that can handle the power without blowing and without replacing the entire system. Any recommendations?

Anyone have these speakers they want to sell? "upgraded" or not

"These speakers commonly fail as the original design could not handle the 500 watts of power the monsoon system put out; this new design has more handling power and will not blow out easily like the original THESE SPEAKERS ARE designed to be used with the GM Stereo system option codes of W54 , W55, and W56 if you look at the part number stamped on the magnet of you old speaker it will either have part # 9365799 or 16217721 if these numbers match you know that this is the right speaker."

The original version of these speakers commonly failed The original design could not handle the 500 watts of power the monsoon system put out; this new design has an different coating on the cone that gives this updated speaker more handling power and will not blow out like the original

Your sail panel speakers are the rear passanger speakers, they are "subwoofers" and if u want an upgrade you should look into eD (elemental design) 6.5" subwoofers. The ones that you are looking could be the same ones you blew. Look in the stickies for ideas, also if you do a search on here you will find a big thread about replacing the sail speakers with the eD subwoofers.

That ad is mostly bull. The Monsoon system is rated at 500 watts peak into eight channels. There is no way the sail panel subs are getting anywhere near that much power. Besides, it's not the power that kills the factory speakers - it's the distortion put out by the head unit. Not only that but GM never made an optional "upgraded" speaker to handle more power - they're just selling OEM parts with a lot of hype.

As Gordon0652 said, the eD 7kv.2 6.5" subs make excellent replacements - especially in Firebirds because they are dual voice coil just like the factory speakers.

Also, coatings on the cone do not give more power handling. You'd have to redesign the speaker with more Xmax and with a larger voice coil for that.

Go aftermarket.

Yeah the cone has nothing to do with power handling, that is mainly the voice coil's department. They're making stuff up to sell parts to ignorant people.
