ecm: factory? or aftermarket?

ecm: factory? or aftermarket? Ok, so I'm shopping for my LS1/T56 for my swap. I'm wondering if it is best to find one complete with ECM, or I'll b eupgrading to aftermarket anyway?
I've heard that the factory one is very capable up to my HP goals (no more than 500hp) and can be easily tuned.
That being said: I see motors selling for less when they do NOT have the ECM. But what would an aftermarket unit set me back?
