Default box question.

a local stereo shop owner told me he could build me a custom sub box, somewhat like the stealth box. he seems to have an alright reputation, should i go for the box? its $100 for either a 10 or a 12

I make them for $109.00 plus shipping out of fiberglass and mdf. How much airspace volume is he going to get out of it for you? Reason I'm asking is most 12" subs require more airspace than a stealth enclosure can supply, unless it is fiberglass and extends up into the area over the wheel hump to gain the extra airspace volume necessary. I know Mike@Fbodyaudio has made a few like this. It takes more than the guy just cutting the opening for a 12" sub which it kinda sounds like he intends to do since there is no difference in price. If he intends to just do a 10" sub, then I'd say give it a shot, especially since he has a good rep!! If he is telling you that you can put a 12" sub in the same box with a bigger opening, then you need to make sure that the 12" sub operates in .6-.7 ft^3 of airspace. That's about all the room there is in the drivers side area unless extended up. Good luck!!!
