305 heads make good compression if your run a flat top piston but they have small intake runners and small valves and would require alot of work to get them to make good power.

On alot of street peformance builds we do we have been using the Vortec heads with great results.

okay..heres the thing. all 305 heads are 58cc. and have at most 160 cc intake runners. and with a .030 under deck 4 eyebrow piston will yield about a 10 to 1 CR. which will give you fits with any type of ignition advance on pump gas with an iron head. while the CR is good, the small intake runner and valve size will handicap any power your hoping to make over 5000 rpm. scrap the 305 and keep the crank as a spare(its a 3.48 stroke, same as a 350)and find or use the heads on the 350 you just got. if you want compression buy pistons with no valve relief top or a .100 dome and run a .020 compressed head gasket. let us know more about what kind of power your lookin to make and where in the rpm band you want to make it. i will then be able to tell you more.
