Default 200 4r

any vendor recomendations? i would like to hear from people with experience. i am putting down a max of 750rwhp. i had a turbo 400 with a transbrake, but i miss my overdrive. (those damn 4.56 gears). and a 6-speed is fun on the streets, but i want consistency.

i know the buick world loves these transmissions. as i have a semi-built one in my gn also.

We do carry the 2004R however you would need several upgrades to our listedunit to survive in that power band. Honestly though I would seriously consider the 4L80E if I wanted overdrive and max power capabilites along with tunability.Give me a call if you would like to discuss either of these options.

i really like the gear ratio in the 2004r. what do you get to put a 2.75 in a 4l80e?

At 750 RWHP you are beyond what I would recommend a 200-4R for. I agree that the 4l80E would be a much better suited trans for your application.
If you use a 2.75 gearset don't use the TCI pieces, they won't hold up to your power level. Be sure the builder uses a Kilgore gearset.

The 200-4R can be built to handle that type of power but the direct clutch friction area becomes problematic at those power levels and you need ALL the billet pieces.
The price isn't worth it at that power level, you can build a 4L80E cheaper.
You can do a 4L80E with electronic control for about what the all billet 200-4R costs.
I'm a fan of the 200-4R but it does have limitations.

4L80E is a great unit, just be sure whoever builds it is familiar with the full manual kit, they work great but there are some things to watch out for.

With that kind of HP, you won't need a 2.75 gear set. Use the money for the stand alone computer, which you will need for the 4L80E.

Good advice here... a 200 4r that is built to handle the sort of H/P you are looking at is going to be somewhere in the $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 range. They can be built to take it, but it is just not worth it IMHO.

Here's the rub on 4L80E's. While this unit can be built utilizing a manual valve body it would not incorporate a brake. That unit must be in D or 3rd in order to achieve braking. My recommendation would be to purchase a well built 4L80E with a brake and then also get the necessary electronics that will make it very, very streetable. Then you can have the best of both worlds... the ability to leave on the brake and computer controlled overdrive fopr cruising.

That will not be as much of a financial commitment and would be a much more durable unit in the long run.
