Wow, looks very nice for a Mopar but looks big and heavy like the ones from the 70s.

2009 model year is going to be great:

- New Camaro
- New Challenger
- Mustang gets a face lift and maybe more power
- Pontiac G8 will be widely available

That's an amazing looking car and virtually like the concept. Hopefully GM will keep the Camaro as close to the concept as possible.

It's a good time to be alive.

Def. production, it has a B-pillar...

I can see me in a black one of those. I really like that. If a car is going to weigh a lot I like it to have some size. That would fit my 6'3" 265lb self. I think that is a damn sexy car. When is it going to be available?

^ hold your tongue infadel! :jest:
that car looks bad ass, those pics are tons better than the test mule ones that i got on my cell phone. that car is tight, but i am a die-hard camaro guy, so it is going to be a new camaro in my garage...now if i can find a chick that wants to buy a new challenger to sit next to it, that is ok with me.

Ah, good point. I thought it was the concept again until you pointed that out. Wow, I can't believe how similar it looks to the concept design. Good job, Dodge. I need to see it in person to really get a good impression however.

Quite awhile, though it sounds like it's almost done. The media has been given a preview of the interior and what the gauges do when you start the car. Lutz drove one that's nearly complete at Holden's testing grounds in Australia. I expect it to be as close to the concept as the Challenger is to it's concept.

Is this in an article or something? If so is there a link somewhere?

Very nice! I'm excited to see one in person. I'll probably still end up with a 5th gen, but I love the looks of the Challenger too.

That's the concept. The phone pics of the production car were taken at the dealer show in vegas a few weeks ago, all the dodge dealers were given a peak at the 09 line-up.

I just heard from a reliable source there will only be 5500 built the first year, all SRT-8's (possibly all automatics). Then the following year they will roll out the V6's, and the 5.7 Hemi's. Eventually they will be available with a Tremec 6-speed manual, as well as a 6.4 500ish HP Hemi.

Close, The Phoenix 4.0L V6 and a displacement-increased vesion of the 5.7L will go into the New Challenger. A Six speed might be available, but I'd only wager on it being in the later high-hp SRT-8s. The 4.0L and 5.xL will get Chryslers new toy, the Double-clutch manual transmission slated for use in Rams, Front-wheel drive applications to provide some of the long-missed manual tranny experience, and, you guessed it, the new LY cars....

Looks like they got rid of the flaps in the hood. I'd like to see a clearer picture of the rear to see what they ended up doing with the taillights.

I don't think they should make any base model with a V6, or even a 5.7L for that matter. They should make it an SRT8 only, and maybe that 500 hp 6.4L (that is if they make one) as an option too. Whenever you see one of these badass challengers going down the street, you should'nt have to wonder if it's just a V6 or not.:eyes: Leave that to the 300c/magnum/charger.

There's a guy on a local board that usually has some decent info, he said the srt-8 is going to weigh 3700lbs and the r/t will be about 3,900. If that's true that would be phenominal. Not light, but it'll be the first time any of the late model hemis have been in something less than 2 tons. I know Chryler just introduced a new high strength light weight steel for car frames, maybe that has something to do with the weight being down from the lx cars.

They did a good job with the Challenger but the Camaro has a far more refined/cutting edge look IMO. I wouldnt have any problem choosing between the two.

Not too bad. The company needs to get a credible and reasonably priced performance car. Charger and 300 4 doors don't do it and Viper doesn't really fit the bill either.

I had 2 1970 AAR Cudas back in the day, so I can comment with some experience. One thing they have to do is ditch those ugly looking inboard headlights. The other is to keep the weight and pricing down, that way it could be a good seller.

Let's hope they get it right by the time it hits the showroom. It would be nice to see the new "American" Chrysler Corp. succeed.

your forgetting that the challenger actually needs to turn a profit so if only in SRT8 form, I can guarantee it wouldn't be successful

This thing will weigh over 2 tons. I have heard 4100 on this site several times. But it was made to be a heavy beast unlike the Maro or Stang.

Never thought about that, I guess that makes sense.

I don't see how, it's a 2 door. The 300c/magnum/charger weigh about 4100lbs but they're 4 doors.

To bad Plymouth is no longer, I agree the Cuda is a far better platform to work with in the styling dept. I remember some Cuda renderings that put the Challenger to shame.

The Cuda was IMO the best looking offering from Mopar back in the day. Even with that said the Camaro was still the better of the two IMO.

I've heard a lot of stuff on this site(car rumor wise), and a lot of it ends up being fluff:) Of course by the time the actual truth comes out most people forget that what so and so said completely missed the mark.
I wouldn't be shocked to see it weigh +4000lbs, but with the 2008 sebring chrysler introduced a new lightweight steel for frames that drastically reduced(like by 13%) the weight of that car. This lends a little credence to the idea that the challenger could indeed tip the scales a few hundred lbs less than the charger/300/magnum.

jmurray87
10-29-2007, 09:37 AM
I dont think anyone will know its weight untill they say what it is, I say it will be around the 4,000lbs area. I just hope the camaro weight is lower....the G8 GT is just under 4,000 and thats a heavy sedan....on the same platform as the camaro which is smaller so should weight less....I hope.

WECIV
10-29-2007, 11:22 AM
The original Challenger also weighed 4100 lbs. I have just seen that number a lot on this site...and from the size of it and its wheels...I was thinking it is probably somewhere around there.
