BS3 Alternator and oil pressure question
Looking at the documentation, it seems that everything I need is in there but Oil Pressure and a voltage reference to the alternator.
What is everyone doing for Oil Pressure? Autometer guage?
What alternator setup are you running? Seems like an internal regulator like stock will not work.

OK, I looked at my 02 GMC and it still has a wire off the main harness for the alternator. I can not see an external regulator. According to the wiring diagram I have, the weatherpack connector has a wire that runs back to the PCM. Will this cause issues if the PCM is no longer there, If so I'm wondering what I use for that?

depending on the donor vehicle for the alternator, you will need at minimum a field wire to get it to charge. The regulator is built into the alternator as it sits.
Assuming it's an f-body alt, the simplest thing to do it connect the field terminal to the charge post of the alternator with a 500 ohm 1/2 watt (minimum) resistor. This will create a slight draw on the battery however. Correct way is to use a switched ignition feed to the resistor, and then to the field terminal.
truck and vette alternators also use a external feed to the internal regulator to set the charging voltage, so the f-body is the easiest style to use.
As for oil pressure, are you using the stock cluster??
If so, the stock gauge and sending unit never touch the PCM. You can just leave them as is and they work.

For the 12v IGN wire to the bs3 just tag off that and run a 470ohm resistor inline to the ALT circuit. We run this in our car and get full charging.

If you've got the DAE option, it's set up for oil pressure on the BS3.
Haven't looked at the dash manual in a while, but I know you can add external sensors directly to it. Just no logging of it in the BS3.
As for the alt, it's easier to use the built in regulator that mess with an aftermarket one with external reg. But they do sell single wire ones, but the always seem to be a little on the small side if you have a couple electric pumps on the car.

I just got a one wire pressure sensor and connected it directly to the dash inputs.
As for the alternator. We just go to our local alternator/starter repair shop and get a self exciting regulator for the stock unit. It just swaps out and is like $20.
