I've been using nothing but M1 0w40 for about two years now in my '98 LS1. I switched from the M1 10w30. I've been much happier with the 0w40, and have no problems to report.

I run nothing but Mobil 1 0w40 in both my 2000 Z28 and my 2005 GTO. I read somewhere about oil analysis performed on LS engines showed the least amount of wear in harsh operating conditions using the German grade Castrol synthetic 0w30. I have always just used the Mobil 1 0w40 since it is easier to find locally and I have read that the Mobil 1 products run a little thinner, hence the 0w40 instead of 0w30.

M1 has no German grade. It is German Castrol 0w30.

Personal preference maybe but I have only ran Castrol in my vehicles and never had an oil analysis come back even the slightest bit concerning.
