Default z06 questions?

Hey guys, im looking into picking up a 01 Z06. Im not a noob when it comes to LS1's but every model is different so i wanted to run some ideas by you guys and see what you think. First off the car has 67xxx miles and no mods. Im a speed junkie so i was looking at doing some: long tube headers w/ x pipe, cat back, cai, ported tb, and the TS cam package (springs, cam of choice, pushrods)....that should net me somewhere in near 415/400.....then a 150 wet shot....

Questions: When should i expect the clutch to go out?
Is the corvette rear end stronger than the camaro 10 bolt?
Suspension mods needed with a corvette?
What issues did this car have, if any?

Im sorry if this is in the wrong thread...trying to keep the cost down but for the above mods i will go all out, i dont want a shitty sounding car because i tried to save $100 bucks or something...

Yea you'll be at 415 horsepower easily with those bolt ons.

Clutch can go out on stock power so thats a hard question. If you plan on spraying on the stock clutch,it'll go pretty quick.
The vette's have IRS instead of the 10 bolt. Not sure on how strong they are though.
Suspension mods for going straight? Suspension mods for corner carving?
Not sure what you mean by what issues did the car have. That depends on who drove it and how they drove it.

Yea the 01 ZO6 was rated 385hp @ 6000 RPM & 385ftlbs @ 4800 RPM. 02-04 ZO6s had 405hp @ 6000 RPM & 400ftlbs @ 4800 RPM. Not sure what they changed after the first year to get the extra power. Either way the 5th gen ZO6 is a quick car

Hokay.
The clutch is probably not going to stand up to your mods, especially on the squeeze, and is expensive to replace. Do A LOT of research as you don't want to be changing clutches on a regular basis.
The Corvette IRS is much stronger than the 7.5 10-bolt, but has the same enemy...wheel-hop. They make hardened output shafts that will raise the strengthe level considerably.
Z06s handle well from the get go, so unless you are talking purely 1/4 mile, I don't see much to address there.
The C5 has some general issues like the column-lock, oil-consumption and electrical gremlins, but nothing glaring.

Try the Corvette section here or corvetteforum.com for a wealth of info...

x2 for the corvetteforum for a resource.

the diff in the 385hp and the 405hp is the cam. same internals and same heads(243's)

'01s have a ton of tsb's for oil consumption and it is a very well known fact

okay, 1) thank you for the top two posts, everyone has been helpful but the top 2 really hit it....
2) I was unaware it had a IRS, Someone tried to tell me it had a different set up with the dfferential and what not in the rear but i really didnt pay attention then...
3) What is a good clutch that will hold power near 600tq? I figure when all said and done the car will have all the above mods and a very nice set of heads, so with the spray arround 550tq give or take...so plan for 600tq to be on the safe side...does southbend make a clutch for these cas, i had on in my ***** and i was impressed...
4) I understand wheel hop is the enemy of most high performace cars these days (doing dead stop racing)...So is their like a brace or busings that help? The car will nearly see all roll racing (20, 45, maybe 60....) but theirs always some AWD out to prove something so to stay in the safe I would like to address this issue now as well...
5) TSB's??? Please help me out here? What the rings were shitty or something and allow oil to pass by and be burned???
6) Any personal experience with exhaust systems? My main concerns are sound and fit....After that i really dont care....

Thanks a lot guys, im gonna check on the vette forums...

rings are fine, it's the pcv system. these engines suck oil through the pcv system.
