Default Will the 390/40R17 MandH tire fit with mini tub?

I was wondering if anyone has run this tire with minitubs. right now I have offset LCAs but I may move them if I need to.

I would like to run it on a 10 spoke SS wheel that has been widened to 12".
Will it work?

Comparable Race Size 12.0/29.5R17

Tread Width: 12.1"
Section Width: 14.8"
Diameter: 29.5"
Circumference: 92.7"
Rim Size: 12.0"
Code: ROD-09R

They aren't even as wide as a 325 MT DR. For some reason the M&H's run very narrow. My 325 M&H DR's are 9" wide.

The 29.5" height is gonna give you some fitment issues. You don't need a mini tub for the width at all, but you may need to trim the bumper and 1/4 panel to clear the height.

why would you even bother with a 17 inch rim on a drag car? Put a 15 on it and save a ton of rotating weight that's very far form the center of rotation (the worst place to have it) nevermind there's a million tires that will fit and work better.

I am going to get a set of ET Drags on 15" wheels for serious racing.

I was just wanting something to play around with and run in a radial class just for fun. I was just wanting to keep the "stock" look with the OEM wheels. It's really no big deal with this setup.

The car is already minitubbed. So these tires are not as wide as they say they are?
If not these tires whats the biggest DR I can fit under it with mintub on 17" wheels?

I believe this is the biggest radial for 17" rims

Hoosier D.O.T. Drag Radial Tires 335/35-17
25.60 in.
Tread Width (in)12.40 in.
Section Width (in):13.60 in.

2nd biggest
Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Tire P315/35R17
Tire Overall Diameter: 25.78''
Tire Tread Width: 11.7''
Tire Section Width: 12.7''

Not sure about that M&H tire but 29.5 for a 40 series tire seems way too tall. If the tire actually has a 14.8" section it will most likely hit the LCA.

My offset LCA was only about 14 1/4" from the outside of the fender well to the LCA.

You can relocate the LCA and pick up 2" or more depending if you mount it on the side of the frame or in between it, but it is a lot of work to run a tire maybe an inch wider if it is even that wide to start with.

I say go with the hoosier or et street radial to use on your 17's and save yourself the hassle of all the extra work, either one will be good enough for messing around on the street.

I have been thinking about moving the LCA anyway as I bracket race and I want the biggest tire I can fit in there. It still won't be driven on the street even with the radial though. I have only put maybe 400 miles on the street in the past 3 years with the car. I put many more miles on it durring burnouts that on the street. Thanks for the tire suggestions. Running the radial class would just be for fun, nothing serious.

So these tires are not as wide as they say they are? I have a pair (unmounted) and they measure very close to above dimensions. I am most likely going to have to modify lca mounting points.

My 275x60x15 m&h muscle car drags were 10.4 wide and 28.5 tall , does not seem undersize
to me.

I am not done with mine yet, but I found a photo of one of the ways to do it here.

Just move the LCA in between the factory bracket and frame and cut out a small section on the rear seat above the LCA for clearance, then relocate rear LCA mount and shock.

Isn't that tire going to rub? I mean 29.5 tall and a 15" section even perfectly centered, that only gives you 1/2" clearance each side if you have a true 16" of clearance, which isn't much.

Personally I wouldn't use a tire wider than 14-14.5" just to keep the rubbing down, also more than likely a radial tire that big will slow the car down.

why not go with a 325 or 335, whatever the17" size is.

I saw the Katech shop car with M&H 325x17's at the Detroit Autorama. They are fine for a sleeper and I certainly agree that they would be faster on a lower horsepower car. Doing burnouts at speed on the freeway is only fun if your winning.

Doing burnouts on the freeway on a tire that big means the tire is junk.

Or YOU don't make enough power. Just throwing a big tire on doesnt mean it will hook.

Quick Reply: Will the 390/40R17 MandH tire fit with mini tub?
