Default shaft play allowance?

was discussing this with a buddy and would like to hear some of your opinions on shaft play. He said some is acceptable and im not quite sure i believe that. Would slight movement from side to side be acceptable?

Default

There has to be some clearance in the bearings to allow oil to lubricate everything.
You should check with the turbo manufacturer, because the spec varies with the size and brand of turbo.
I thought my 66mm S300 Borg units were a bit sloopy, but the builder said that because the shafts are longer on these units that the clearances are a little looser.
I had about .025" of movement (recently calibrated eyeball) on mine.
