isnt ms3 mostly top end cam ?

isnt ms3 mostly top end cam ?

dosnt mean it dosnt perform well!

i love mine. if ur auto get a stall it will fix ur problem, if ur 6 speed wit 410s i dont think you will see low rpms for that long anyways. it will still pull on a smaller cam that is suppose to net better low end power.

My MS3 was awesome... Even with the 3.42 gears and the 4500 vig w/the 60e trans.... I drove it everyday w/o issues... Just get a good tuner and youre good to go....

I love mine and could drive it everyday if I wanted with no issues. But my car is setup to be a top-end monster and I still have stock 3.42s but it really needs 4.11s to get in the powerband quicker

It all depends on what you're willing to put up with

were the power band start at on this cam ?

that hasnt really been a problem for me. we spend most of the race in high RPMS anyways.i think aslong as ur not launching off of idle you wont really notice. the only time u notice the loss of low end is DD. but from my personal view its not that bad.

For mine, about 3K and then the sky is the limit!

well if you dont have a stall, or if you launch ur m6 off of idle you are gunna notice the loss of low end. but if you atleast stall it up alil bit. you will be fine.

what are the profiles on this cam ?

Honestly, if I was looking for a 1/8th mile cam, this would not be it....for me. I guess with a high enough stall or a super clutch, it would be ok, but there are probably better. For a 1/4mile cam, or 'couple of stoplights' cam, it rocks!

if you want a decent all around cam. that has nicer low end i would say Torquer 2. if i were to ever get a smaller cam it would be that one. it sounds nice, and performs well. but i really like my ms3. i dont plan on changing it anytime soon.

The MS3 is a 237/242 .603".609" with some advance ground in the LSA (I am not 100% sure though)

I run the cam in my 346, love its pull. It is a bit of a dog under 2500 rpms...but so what! 3000+ you better hold on to something. I race the car and plan on running a dual stage wet nitrous system in a few weeks, as the MS3 really works well with the spray.

I had 4.10 gears but broke the ring, so I am back to the stock 3.42's and it still hauls.
The 4.10 gears make for some easier around town driving, especially coming off red lights. You could without a doubt DD this cam, but you need someone who KNOWS how to tune work with it for some time. A cookie cutter tune WILL NOT suffice, and your driveability WILL SUFFER. I experience some bucking from time to time, but it is worth it.

I had a cookie cutter tune in there for a while, and everything was off. Timing, a/f, idle. You really need to put the car on a dyno and work with it for a few hours to get its full potential. 95% of driveability is in the tune IMO. Dan here @ MASPORT retuned it and we wre able to produce my numbers you see below with heads and a ported FAST.

I have a built T56 by the way.

+1 for the MS3.

To each his own for sure :) I run both the 1/8th and the 1/4 with this cam, and it pulls. You cannot launch it from idle though...I mean, you can't in ANY car with ANY cam really if you want to cut a good 60'...

Get a clutch with some balls, take it up to 5k, and slip the clutch somewhat coming off the line and watch the front of the car wanna pull up.

I have cut 1.9 60 foots on street tires and no lauch whatsoever, just some decent feathering skills, so I know this cam will work well in any situation.

I run the MS3 in my SS and I am very well pleased with its performance. It isn't my daily driver, but it could be without issue.

Everybody has a different idea of tolerable driveability, so there is really no way to tell if you'll like it until you fire it up with the cam installed for the first time. ;)

As previously mentioned in this thread - the tune is the key factor in determining driveability. Get a good one and you'll love it as a daily driver. Get a bad tune and you'll hate it.

Good luck! :)

what about the ms4 ? that like a more aggressive version of ms3 right ?

stangkiller2005
10-31-2007, 02:02 PM
thats to big IMO. and it limits the heads you can get due to P to V clearance. ive heard good things, and bad things bout that cam. back in texas they had a vette bend a push rod with that cam. i have 4 friends here in cali with that cam now. there pretty happy with it. i cant really speak much for that cam since i never had it. and probably wont get it. also im sure you kno the bigger and more aggressive the cam. the more often you have to change out valve springs. the cam makes good power, and can be DD my friends do it. IMO its more a cam only cam. but i think thats what you are looking for..so it could be a option for you

Dude, no offense, but you really need to do some(read: alot) of research. I would reccommend Texas Speed and Performance, whom carry both the MS3 and MS4. They have multiple other great options as well as a RPM scale to give you an idea where the cam will put you in regards to power. I studied for at LEAST a year prior to picking my cam, and Im glad I did! ;)

if your looking at the MS3 def check out the G5X3 and G5X4 by LG Morotrsports. Really good performers and on par with MS3/MS4 size wise.

I would seriously check out TSP, Thunder, and Futral. They are all very knowledgeable and I assure you at least ONE of them will have the PERFECT cam for what you are looking for!

just go with the next ones up.. get some dual springs that are rated alil higher then the lift of the cam your going to run.

Save your money. Go with Patriot Gold Duals. This will be the only 'easy' decision in your build. They come with tit retainers and the total kit is as much as JUST the Titanium retainers from Comp!

I have heard that too, however your still dealing with a single coil spring. The duals will provide extra insurance against a broken valvespring ruining your setup, especially if your running a cam as large as an MS3/MS4 G5X3/G5X4.

how much are the patriot spring kits ?

alright not to hijack, but im wondering which would be for a meaner, stouter setup.. im looking at the MS3 or the X1 (230/227). but i plan on running a vig3600, 3.73, and a fast 90/90!! which would make for a killer street setup?

and also, how would a set of TFS heads work with those cams?
