This took care of it for me. Installed a Flowmaster Delta Force, one-chamber, race muffler on each side of the y-pipe where the cat converters would normally be. Thaey are about the same size as the cats and fit fine. Rasp gone, nice deep sound, only one internal baffle, so flow is still good. Got mine from Jegs (about $70 each).

That looks good, but how much better would that be than a pair of carsound cats? You can get them for like $120 a pair.

My friend did something similar with his LM...

He installed a glass pack in the reg. location, then 2 more small ones, one right behind the pass. side exhaust tip, and the other where the stock location for the muffler is.

sounds great but i think high flow cats would be better, i am getting mine on the qtp y-pipe and the flow pretty well you should look at their numbers better than most

I killed the raspy exhaust by increasing my CR to 11.4 to 1.

...I was surprised too but it works...

I want to do something like that to my y- pipe. This way the cops can see that I have "cats" .

Very nice. I think I will put a pair of those same mufflers in the same place when I get some long tube headers, and after the mufflers merge into some oval pipe exiting right in front of the rear tires . No H or X-pipe . Should sound pretty mean even with the stock cam .

OK; my LT headers, cats and cat back muffler produced the classic raspy noise that everyone associates with LS1 cars...

...somthing I hate but accepted.

I recently changed my heads and cam; the new set up produces a compression ratio of 11.4 to 1.

To my total surprise the raspy sound is GONE! Amazing, right? ...this with no other change in the exhaust!

I admit, it is not a very cost effective way to get rid of the rasp but it has other benefits, too!

I put in two 3" bullet mufflers, one on each side of the Y. The rasp went from almost unbearable to almost not there.

I was afraid you meant that.... well I have longtubes with no cats and Borla and it's a little raspy when letting off of it and throttling down or downshifting. I think I'll just wait and do heads/cam before I play with my exhaust anymore , thanks for the clarification

You also changed the cam, the design of the head is different, etc...
I'm not sure can safely say more compression stopped the rasp.
(At least you didn't say your new lifters stopped the rasp!!!) :p

After swapping cams in my car, my RASP got much worse...
