Default Trans wont come out of 6th?

I drove my car to Houston and I lost 6th gear. I wasnt surprised cause i have a stock tranny with 400 + RWHP Then it started not wanting to go into 6th, 5th,4th, or 3rd On the way back to granbury. ( about 45 min from Ft worth.) 5th went completely out. I mean there was no grinding or nothing. When i tried to put it in 5th it was like i put in in nuetral. I get to cleaburn and I turned onto hwy 4. I shifted through like normal and tried to go to 5th. (a habit) didnt go then i tried 6th just to see what happened. It went in. I was pretty happy until i got to the red light. So i stopped and put it into first. When the light turned green i started to role out of the clutch and it felt like it was still in 6th. Even when i put it into nuetral it wont go. I dont know if its stuck in 6th or the tranny just locked all the way up?

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was at the track and it stuck in
6th no matter where the shifter went. Finally got it in third and got it on the trailer.

Anyway, when I pulled it out - I found the little snap ring that holds the 5-6 fork on the rail had come out of it's slot. The shift pads were destroyed and the keys on the 5/6 slider were pretty much gone.

I'm done for the winter...

sounds like you broke your shift fork for 5th and 6th. I did it once only in 4th
