gathering parts for a turbo build...critique away!
id like to make around 900-950 all out...
i plan to do a forged ls2 shortblock...stock stroke and bore...
for heads im not too sure what to do but i need something with a thicker deck...ive got some untouched 853 sitting here but should i try and get some untouched 317's? and arp studs to hopefully keep them on the block...
as for the cam i was goana go custom somewhere in the upper 220's
ls6 intake and pnp t/b prolly a shaner
for turbo i wanted to do a 76 but dont think its goana be enough turbo...if i get it to its limit can i make more with nitrous or will the exhaust housing be too restrictive? im not sure whats between that and a 88 but i dont wanna go with a 88...space is very limited..., and id much rather do a single to keep costs down...is there something inbetween
i been reading a lot...i want to keep it very driveable and make good power...i know normally they dont go hand in hand but thats the reason i choose boost over nitrous...you have to make a bunch of power on motor then add nitrous to it and its radicle(sp) with big heads and normally large cam...boost i can keep the cam down might not even need to work the heads much and still get my goal...i liked mightymouse's car and actually trying to do something similar to that..
also i need to make all the piping...what type are yallusing for cold and hot sides? where did you get it from? and what all did you get...ive got a mig and access to a tig...
and exhaust mani's i goana do a 6.0 on the drivers side backwards, and the passenger im trying to find what will clear the a/c (trying to keep it)
critique my ideas! and recomend away...im very new to boost and tryint to learn...

ls6 wouldnt be a big restriction there are plenty of ppl on here running them with boost and putting down great numbers. the main reason for going with the edelbrock victor jr is for even airflow to all cylinders to avoid the lucky #7 going lean. but you could still run an ls6 and avoid this if you have a very good tuner who know what he/she is doing. your A/F is an average of each cylinders individule A/F so you could be reading a good number like 11.5 but that doesnt mean all 8 cylinders are running at that number.

We need to know your budget. Truck manifolds and a/c don't work. Thicker deck means AFR or ETP heads. 900+hp is gonna need more then a 76mm turbo. You may want to consider doing a 402 or 408. IS this going to be a track car, street car or both?

my white car makes around 650 limited by the stock bottom end...its more of a track car then anything, its no fun because the big cam and stuff to drive it isnt really practical to me...want something much more tame and make more power...its not going in it
i been thinking about going with the etp heads but i might do 317's and see how far i can go before i push water.......if i cant make 900 then ill get some etp's...(for now to get the shortblock done and all the piping and bugs worked out i think ill start with some 317's) id like to keep it stock cubic inches because this is going to see HEAVY street duty...lots of low boost cruising but i want the ability to run with the big dogs...2 for cost, i was thinking about doing a stock crank...
budget is as it comes..no real limit to get it together i was only hoping by next summer....hoping i should be able to do everything for under 12000, fuel system is done...
as for truck manis i know a/c wont work but i think i read that c6 manis will work on the pass side backwards and clear the a/c compresor...if not i might have to modify a stock manifold or something, ive got a welder and can mig pretty good...i just need some piping to weld on....

our shop car runs an ls2 manifold w/ a nick williams 90mm t.b.
last combo made 1,144rwhp. You don't want to use a multi-piece intake with FI generally becuase you would have a lot more potential for leaks.

with 360-370 cubes you could use a T4 framed turbo if your limited in space like you said.
A PTE88 mated to an ls2 should get you there. the pt88 sint bigger then the t76gts except for the exhaust housing a little bit.
for my bends i used aluminized from summit racing.

Sounds like our goals are about the same. I'm going to run a 408 though. I'm thinking S80, but may very well go with the S85 like DrTurbo recommends. Decent spool and they make big power. I'm thinking about toning down the boost a little, I need it "reliable" yet make decent power in a 2900lb car. I would take a look at the S85, spools quicker than an 88, yet makes decent power from what I hear.

geez...408...i wanna keep the CI down for a little more tame car...i want to drive the **** outa this car....
im all ears on this s85...but im still trying to read and learn more so i can get to where im competant myself.....
im mostly confused about all t he differant turbos there are...i mean
s80 s85 s88 s91 gt42-?? gt47-?? ptxx? not to mention i believe mosta there come in t4 and t6 flanges ect ect...some of them are in the same housings? manits overwhelming
ive got a buncha parts now...all the small stuff...but still need a shortblock, injectors, turbo and accessories and to make the piping...prolly hold off on the piping and details with that until after winter....goana focus on getting this stuff in...
im thinking about doing a watercooled intercooler with a resavoir...ive installed a few for cobra guys which run them in the trunk i might do the same help with weight anyways

The S-series and GT series are all the newer units. The PTE-88 is the older turbos based on the TV series wheels. Good units, but spool a little slow. Also the PT88 is about 1" longer then a 76GTS also plus mentioned the housing is larger as well on the exhaust side.

the PT76 and 88 are a precision turbo, they are a smaller frame then the gt47
the 76 can support a little bit over 900rwhp with a 350ish cubed engine, the pt88 can do a bit over 1000rwhp with around that many cubes (mightmouse has run a 155 trap with 3800lbs with the pt88, he as a stock stroke ls2 block)
