Default Help with clutch

I am having problems with the clutch. the tranny feels notchy. the clutch pedal goes in nice and easy but when I try to put it in gear it is really tough. now we adjusted the clutch pedal by rotating the nut on and shaft to get the pedal a little higher. now the car will not start. it is acting like the neutral safety switch is not engaging. but I have never looked into this. what am I looking for. if not that then I dont know what else it could be.
thanks
Wesley

Sounds like a hydraulic problem. What brand of clutch?
