MALLICOAT IS CROWNED 2007 SCSS SERIES CHAMPION!

Madison, IL, November 10th---Tim “Moose” Mallicoat, the 2007 SX Performance Street Car Shootout Series Champion, officially earned the accolades of fans and fellow competitors during the 41st annual Awards Ceremony at Gateway International Raceway. For his efforts, the Collinsville, Illinois, driver received the monstrous SCSS Championship trophy, a custom GIR SCSS Champion leather jacket, photos of his 2007 Championship season, special SCSS Champion decals, a Gold Card good for free admission to all 2008 SCSS series events and a unique commemorative bottle of Budweiser beer created by the Anheuser-Busch Brewery especially for the occasion.

Mallicoat’s naturally-aspirated, gasoline-burning 1968 Chevrolet Camaro rewrote the Gateway record books with the most dominant season performance of any machine in the track’s eleven-year history. The black M&M Automotive-sponsored “Hellraiser” Chevy qualified at all nineteen races it entered and won a staggering sixteen of nineteen completed events. Gaining the title over 2,710 other entries which participated in the twenty-six race Tuesday night series, Mallicoat‘s Camaro was the quickest qualifier at all but five events and never qualified worse than third in the weekly sixteen-car field. He scored his first SCSS victory of the season on April 17th and remained undefeated for thirteen consecutive weeks. Mallicoat completed the year with an astounding record of thirty-three elimination rounds won with only two losses, a round-win percentage of 94.29%. When Mallicoat’s Camaro suffered a flat rear tire during the June 12th event, the “Moose” drove friend Hal Marshall’s 1986 Chevy S-10 pickup into the winners’ circle in both the Street Car Shootout and the GatewayRaceway.com Super Truck Showdown to become only the third driver in the four-year history of the series to win multiple titles in one event!

Although the early-season point standings were led by Steven Gentry’s Festus, Missouri-based 1965 Mercury Comet, 2006 SCSS Season Champion Tony Buhl’s Lebanon, Illinois 1989 Ford Mustang and Tony Huff‘s Collinsville, Illinois, 1968 Chevy Nova, Mallicoat finally passed Huff for the lead in the championship chase on June 13th after making up ground lost by missing the season’s opening event. Huff, who completed the season at the wheel of brother Dale’s 1966 Chevy Chevelle, finished second in the point championship followed by Edwardsville, Illinois, racer Raymond Arthur’s 1967 Chevy Camaro. A total of one hundred forty different competitors earned qualifying points during the series.

The championship is decided by a point total based on two points awarded for qualifying in the top four positions and one point earned for qualifying fifth through sixteenth at each SX Performance Street Car Shootout Series event at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL. All vehicles must compete using Department of Transportation-approved (street legal) tires. Mallicoat’s 565-cubic inch bigblock-powered “Hellraiser” Camaro ran as quick as 8.56 seconds during the season with a best speed clocked at 158.52 miles per hour.

“We really had a great year and this trophy symbolizes a lot of work that paid off“, said Buhl as he marveled at the 56-inch-tall award. “We tested almost as much as we raced and my wife and kids were with my most of the time I was at the track. I should thank them for their patience but they enjoy being here just as much as I do. We all had a great time so I can promise we’ll be back in 2008 to defend our title. It will be nice to be able to put that big number one on the window for next season!”. While Mallicoat is only the second Chevrolet driver to earn a season title in the four-year history of the SCSS series, he is the fourth straight Illinois resident to win following inaugural champ Laurence Bass (2004), Kevin Kolkmeyer (2005), and Tony Buhl (2006).
