Default HID Question

Hey all. I am looking at converting my stock headlights to HID. I have been doing research for my DD as well (04 Ram). I will be ordering from LEDgauges, but have heard that the HID conversions have problems with "strobing." Anyone experience this? Also, how hard was the install? Worth it?

Thanks,
Chris

The install is straight forward. It's all plug and play. As far as the strobing I have not experienced it. It can be attributed to a bad ballast or a poor ground. I use a relay harness which hooks up to the battery to provide full power to the HIDs when they are first turned on. HIDs use the most power when they are first turned on. Yes it is worth it. I use a kit in my 02 SS and my 99 Grand Prix. Worth every penny.

The problem with putting HID capsules into Halogen Reflector housings is glare. The Halogen housings can't properly focus and aim the light. Therefore the light gets sent out in a scattered beam.

Yes that is a problem. But some of us do not have the time or money to retrofit projectors. So our best alternative for poor light output due to the design of the head lamp is HIDs. Aim them properly to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

Thanks a lot guys. The Ram has a lot more problems doing the conversion,
and I wanted to make sure it was easier on my Camaro. I will be adjusting them good,
as I get annoyed by some with them in traffic, and don't want to be that guy.
Also, do you all have the hi and low beams? Or just the lows? I never use my
hi-beams, so figured it'd be a little cheaper to go that route.
(The Camaro has two seperate bulbs for the hi/low correct? Sorry for the newb question, I'm still learning haha)

italicizedsponge, what color temp is that? Is it as blue as it looks in the picture?

Thanks again,
Chris

All you need is the lows. You can leave the high beams as halogen bulbs.

Why don't you replace the high beams too? Is it because the HID is so bright you really don't need highs anymore, or is it because the HID kits for low and high are the same brightness?

You can't quickly flash HID. You wouldn't be able to flash your High Beam anymore to signal other drivers.

The K number is the color temp. It is not the brightness (well not directly, I'll explain). 4000K - 5000K is the brightest. Continuing up the color scale, the light gets bluer then purpler and the lumens output (the actual measurement of light) decreases. In other words, a 10000K HID kit is dimmer than a 4300K HID kit. Our eyes are least sensitive to blue light. Blue light also scatters more easily. In the end, we can see better with a 4300K HID kit for many reasons.
