Default Anyone cutting 1.4-1.5X 60" w/ a NA 346 with a Vig? Or do Yanks really reign supreme?

Anyone cutting a 1.4-1.5X 60ft or better with a NA 346 using a Vig? Or do Yanks really reign supreme for best track results?

In a mild NA 425hp H/C(232 232 .600, STG 2 Patriot 67cc heads) A4 car.

Is it worth 300-350$ to go from my good ole 3600 Vig to a Yank PT4400?

Or is my money in better use somewhere else?

Yank PT4400 stock shortblock heads/cam 440RWHP Spohn suspension.
1.36 60' is my best

This is the 3rd yank I have had in the car upgrading each time as I went. I love these converters and always highly recommend them.

I have a Yank, and wouldn't put anything else in my car other than an ATI. I have gone 11.42 @ 116.24 (1.47 60ft) with the Yank PT4400, 3.73 gears, a 8" slick, and a bone stock longblock, just boltons and no power adder. Not putting down PI, but 30 out of the 50 fastest Stock Internal LS1s are running Yank converters. That should tell you something

This is exactly what I was talking about!!!

Everyone on top of the stock internals list are running a Yank of some sort.

I believe a Vig 3200 pops up @ #16 and the next vig is @ #39 and the third is at #49

That is all I see

Otherwise its all Yank with a few TCI and other off brands scattered through.

Not trying to bash VIG or promote Yank I am basing my reasoning off of the results provided to me by the ET database

Anyone else with a Vig cutting some 1.4X and what is your MPH?

BTW what has been your Key to cutting weight on your car Matt?

I have
98 Z28 stock wheels with MT radials Hardtop! Power seats/doors
Fiberglass Hood 30lbs
Fiberglass ss spoiler 5-7lbs
! AC 31 lbs
!EGR 11 lbs
!AIR 5lbs?
!heatshielding 3lbs?
LTs with custom duals no cats ???10-15???
! Windshield fluid container 5lbs
! Front swaybar 11lbs
! Rear seats 18lbs
! all carpet reat or the rear seats as well as side pannels 10lbs
! fog lights 5 lbs
KN FIPK (does this save any weight)???
and soon to be aftermarket converter 20-35lbs???

What should be my most cost effective next step to dropping weight?

Other than the Subway diet???

Not sure that means much. Most guys seem to buy whatever somebody they consider fast is using. Wonder how many have tested them back-to-back in the same car? One local guy did, and his 60' times were nearly a tenth quicker with the same stall speed (3500/3600)Vig compared to his Yank. He went several 1.4X 60' with the Vig, not with the Yank. That was a head & cam 350" LT1 Camaro. He has an ATI converter in it now, it's quicker than the Vigilante. I have tried several converters (never tried a Yank) and have found nothing as quick or effecient (less RPM at the same MPH and make less heat from slippage) as the two ATIs I have. My Vigilante converters would be #2.

I think that is sound reasoning. I have been hanging converters for years and have only seen one or two I wouldn't run if they were given to me and installed for me.

I believe the reason there is so much loyalty towards Yank is due to the fact that they produce a good product and have a good name. That's it.

I have removed and restalled more Yanks this calendar year than any other mfgr's. Not a dig, just a fact. Mostly I find that they are too tight. Each and every car we have restalled has come away with better 60' times. Now, is that due to the fact that the owner did not spec it out properly, or did Yank not listen to the customer... who knows? I don't.

I have zero animosity towards them. In fact, I have stood there while every one was cut open and the consistancy is remarkable. But, they are not building a better mousetrap, not by far IMHO.

I think their popularity has everything to do with the fact that there is a bit of mystery inside Torque Converters. And if anyone who is not informed about converters is looking to buy one, he is going to take the word of those running those units. It is not hard to figure out at all, most guys take the easy way out and go by word of mouth. Some of the smarter guys I have met, those that are hunting 60', e.t. and trap speeds are the guys who have done their homework and determined for themselves that Yank, ATI and PI are not the only builders who can put a bullet proof converter together.

Just some thoughts from a guy who has been swapping converters and Lord knows aht else for a very long time now.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays guys.
