Default Need input on those with LS7 clutch set-ups

Yesterday for my first time ever at the track with my car turned out to be very disappointing due to the clutch. It's a LS6 that was slightly used when I bought it from a Z06 owner who upgraded. At the time I didnt have much to spend on it and didnt expect it to last as long as it did....over a year and I only paid $25 for it. We had 5 passes and all but one we had a sticking clutch pedal and it not going into gear. Both Tim and I made passes (he's been to the track many times)and it gave us nothing but trouble. Ranger was there and talked to us about the problem and about changing the fluid but mine is beyond that at this point. He was nice enough to help us out with changing the fluid while there. After that the next run the pedal didnt stick but the next one it did after about a 2 hr cool down.

Anyway this will be my 4th clutch. Stock one went at 68k in March 2005 and was replaced with a Spec 3. That took a dump after only 7k miles or so the summer of 06 and was replaced with the LS6 one I have now. I'm leaning towards the LS7 but I would like to hear from others that have had this set up with similar mods as mine and have had it for awhile. Also want to make sure it can handle some passes at the strip.

Right now I have 378hp and 364 tq but am getting a new tune and could have slightly more I am told.

Mods are:

Si5 (Speed Inc) Cam 231/237 .589 .595 112 lsa
Patriot Gold Extreme springs
Futural Pushrods
Ported LS6 Oil Pump
LS2 Timing chain
SLP UD Pulley
SLP Long Tube Headers
Loud Mouth Catback
LS6 intake

BMR Lower Control Arms
Hotchkis Panhard Rod
Spohn Lower control arm relocation brackets
Energy Suspension Tranny mount
BMR Strut Tower Brace
SLP Subframe connectors

Stock 10bolt with stock 3:42, I plan on upgrading to a 12 bolt as soon as money allows Also on another note we did upgrade the master and slave to the newer 01 in March 2005 but I will be replacing them as well

TIA for any help and or insight.

Jonas...I know you told me about it. I just wanted to hear what others had to say about it that race and have similar set-ups. I had gone with the Spec Stage 3 in 2005 because at the time EVERYONE loved it but they were all new owners since it had just come out. And it appears that 90% of those now had nothing but trouble and had to replace it like me so I didnt want to be in the same boat again. As far as more HP you just have to keep rubbing it in now dont ya? Just wait till I get a new tune and hopefully I'll have better numbers

LS1-IROC how long have you had the clutch and have you raced with it?

She just had her cam installed, the previous tuner did not do such a hot job. So another tuner is going to look at it. So hopefully there will be some unfound HP hiding around somewhere

Yes I did take it there and had problems with an idle dip as I was driving home from his shop. I called him back the next day but could never get in touch with him and continued to try to get a hold of him to no avail.....I'd rather not get into anything here but a local tuner that my b/f and I ran into at a car show that weekend offered to help me out with the idling problem because it was so bad the car just kept stalling on me and I wasnt able to drive it hardly at all. When this new tuner was tuning the car to fix the idle he found some very odd things that were done previously that are robbing me of HP. This tuner is also only 25 minutes away versus almost 2 hours.

I love my ls7. I don't do much racing at the track, but it gets a workout on the streets. I bought mine used and its been good for 5k miles so far. I have heard they heat up quick at the track though.

Michelle, just get the LS7 clutch for now. You'll be fine with that, even if you throw drag radials on it. Just not really sticky tires. Mine has been in for over a year of daily driving 300+ miles a week. Never had a single issue & the install couldn't be any easier.

Just install & bleed like a stock unit & go. No shims or guess work. Very simple & straight forward install.

Get with Matt@SDPC, he is offering free shipping right now too.

I have had mine since feb 06. I think I have put maybe 5,000 miles on it. I haven't had a problem yet.

I had a Spec and it crapped out so I went with the LS7. It has a LOT softer pedal but its nice. Unfrtunately it was only in the car for 1 week and the engine took a dump. I am in the process of fixing that problem. I didn't have it at the track and it isn't even broken in fully yet. No chatter or anything. So far I'd say it is a good piece.

Go ls7 clutch, I am guessing you have already done the drill mod replacing the master. I love mine big improvement over the stock. I have never owned a spec, so not much to say there. Only problem I run into is I have to change my fluid due to my headers heating it up. That will be fixed soon enough!

BTW did you ever get your hood painted.

ls7/ls2 setup here. I still get a soft pedal after hard 1st-5th runs. also FEELS like I lost about a half second with the heavier setup but, could just be me.

25000 miles on my ls7 clutch, 100+ 1/4 mile runs this year and still holding strong...

though I've never dared a clutch dump higher than 4k on 315 nittos, heck I'm having a hell of a time feathering it out of 3000rpm...
