Default SBC Chevy motor in the UK revs to 11K!

Hi Guys, over here in the UK we have a TVR with a SBC in. He is getting 650bhp, and reving the power runs to 11K, the motor was built in the States, and if you look on the profile you can see the builder. Are you guys getting similar results?

I've heard of a few SBC revving that high, and I've even heard of a BBC reving to around 10,000rpm. However, I really don't see a need for it. You can build a motor with more horse-power at a more reasonable RPM level. That thing is probably a dog below 6,000, and you'll have to run such a short gear, that it won't be practical. But I would love to hear that thing sing that high.

Also, notice in the dyno graph that the power falls off drastically 8,000-8,500rpm. There's no need to rev any higher then that because you'r only hurting the motor, and not going any faster.

Yeah That motors needs shifted at about 8800rpm...Nothing New. NASCAR has been doing it for years. That thing would never pull those revs at high speeds.

So, is anyone revving LS's that high? I have an LS in my TVR, but is the old motor better?

I haven't been around the LSx game for that long, but I havn't heard of anyone revvingg an LS motor till 10,000+. There really is no need to rev that high, other then the bragging rights of saying you can. A properly set up car doesn't need more then maybe 6-7,000 to run a 1/4.

Everyones got their opinions on the old vs. new. The general consensus (especially on an LSx site) is that the LS series is a better engine. The only thing that the new and old generations of SBC share is the bore spacing. Everything else is drastically redesigned. There is no reason why you should swap out your LS motor for an older one.

a friend of mines dad built a boss 302 block that he put in a 4wd ranger built for mud bogs that would turn 13k all day long but then again it had a 5000 stall in it

They are getting a good 9000 rpm out of built LSx engines. That is what 6speed rebuilders did. I am happy spinning 7000 in a V8, especially a big block.
