Default Chevy high performance, 9" poor choice for late mod Fbods...

Just reading through the new CHP and there is an artical from strange saying a 9" is a poor choice for late model F-bods mainly due to the use of a torque arm and increased road noise. It also says they reccomend a 12 bolt instead. I thought the whole reason the 12 bolt sucked (in 6sp cars) is because of the torque arm jacking up the housing. HHmmm Ill still go with a 9"

Erik

Oh and it also says that he above reason is why they dont make a 9" for late model f-bods... waddup with that

Strange does not make a bolt in 9 inch *housing* assembly for the f-bodys. they do make all the rest of the components to go in one, though. center sections, axles, housing ends, spools, gears, driveshafts... you get the picture. Strange is not concerned about the 9 inch f-body rearend because they already have a couple other rearends that are direct bolt-ins and have the ability to go 3 or 4 channel abs. the whole driveshaft angle issue and the torque arm mount is more than they care to invest r&d money into. they say the f-body market isn't big enough for the 9 inch when they already have the 12 bolt and S60 and sell plenty of those as it is.

so... thats ok. I made a 9 inch bolt-in housing with 3 or 4 channel abs myself.

Strange doesnt make a 9" for F bodies is what I think the OP was saying. As far as noise goes, it seems like there are more noisy 12 bolts than 9" rears from reading posts on here.
Also another reason people have said that they are not good is because of the lower pinion affecting driveshaft angle. I would still say the 9" is the better choice IMO.

Sounds like they are trying to sell S60's to me.

I guess the many polls that have been taken on this board are all BS, the most popular aftermarket rear is the 9".

The 9" option is one of the more popular options on this board, but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that it is the most popular everywhere else.

The article does sound like they are trying to push their products, and I can't say that I blame them for trying. I went with a Strange 12-bolt in my application due to wanting a little more of a direct drop-in...that and I don't race my car religiously.

I haven't read this article, but I have a Strange 12-bolt as well and I agree it sounds as if they're just trying to sell more of their rear ends and keep people from buying the Moser 9 inch. Although, the Moser 12-bolt is still an option.

I'm not saying this is the case, but you'll find that many of these articles in publications are nothing more than paid advertisements. Therefore, I agree they may be a lil biased.
