Default Best way 2 burnout w/o frying the clutch...

So i'm not new to my car (had it for almost 3 years now)... but can't say that i've ever done a burnout. I've launched a few times spinning the tires but i figured i want to keep my tread cause tires can get expensive. But i WOULD like to give one a shot sometime...

So before i do, i want to make sure i do it right, especially w/o burning up my stock clutch which shouldn't last me much longer anyways (~70K).

So bring it up to 2.5K or so and just dump it? Or is there a magic formula for the 2 feet, 3 pedals dilemma?

Anyways, i'm all ears.

^I agree. I give it a decent amount of gas, dump the clutch and jump on the brake as fast as I can to limit rolling forward. Now when I say jump on the brake, I do not mean slam on the brake. I mean quickly apply proper pressure to the brake

Practice on wet pavement first as it will be easier on the car. Then on dry pavement all you have to do is drop the clutch at a higher RPM.

To avoid clutch-fryage don't have stick tires on back.

5,000rpm in 2nd gear. Dump the clutch. Get on the brake just enough to hold your
position. Keep the rpms up.

for someone that doesnt know what they are doing, that is an easy way to fry your clutch.

Do it in first gear.

Explain why please.

...and I hope you wouldn't recommend a 1st gear burnout at the track
considering there isn't enough tire speed in 1st gear to generate the
necessary tire heat needed for a good hook.

so a decent burnout is going to shave roughly how much life off your tire tread?

Not an auto, he has a CLUTCH! Its not as easy when there are more pedals than feet.

I keep in in 2 in my automatic for my burnout for the same reason.

+1, 1st gear burnouts last about 1 second without banging the limiter.

how hard on the drivetrain is it when u let off when finishing a burnout? like when i hooks...wheel speed drops from like 50 to 0.

If he is running plain old street tires heating them up really isn't worth it at least in my experience. Just give them a quick spin to clean them off and go. The best you can hope for doing a burnout with street tires is that you’ll pickup some sticky rubber from the burnout box and coat your tires with it. My cars has hooked the best after a screwed up run where I spin most of 1st (even if I power shift into second on one of these runs I won’t even chirp um). On my way back my tires sound like drag radials picking up crap and throwing it into the wheel wells. That next run my tires will grib like no other. Just my 2 cents.

He didnt say anything about the track. he is trying learn how to burnout without frying his clutch. it is much easier to learn dumping at 3k in first gear than revving the hell out of it in second. i tried that when i was learning a burnout, got nervous and fried the clutch. go to second when you get comfortable with first.
