Default *** New to LS1's / Horsepower ?'s ***

I am taking a 1993 Mazda RX7 and putting in an LS1 motor!!!

I am going to try to make a decent amount of power (425-450whp) and was wondering where to start. I have a LS1 out of a 2002 Camaro, so I already have the LS6 intake. I was obviously considering a mild to medium cam. What other things can I add to make more power without going crazy on the checkbook. Even smaller things that can add alittle here or there, and maybe make the motor more reliable at the same time. I dont want to go crazy with some abnoxious cam or anything.

Any information would be great!!!

Thanks Alot!!! Shane

With stock heads i don't know if you could get close to 450rwhp without a radical cam.

I obviously would need more than just a cam. What else could I go with to gain some HP. Like I said before, even small gains that are good to do, but also bigger gains as well. Shane

heads, cam, and simple bolt on's(lid, headers/exhaust, UD pulley etc, etc). Ported stock TB will be a good combo for that ls6 intake, and a tune via(dyno, flashscan, handheld whichever you prefer) wouldn't hurt either. Those Will get you in the neighborhood with the right combo of H/C. I make 399whp through a heavy *** turbo 400 tranny....and those are my basic mods. Through a stock M6 T-56 you could expect more around your goals of 420-450ish which is around what your looking for.

also...look at the sticky on the top of this section "so you wanna be fast"....will prolly answer all the q's that you have. Hope that helps bro.

cam, heads, and the supporting mods will get u there no prob. (supporting mods: beefed up valvetrain, bolt ons[intake n exhaust], and a good tune) Those numbers are by no means ouot of reach on a very drivable car. Check out the internal engine section, tons of info on different set-ups. There is also a dyno results & and comparison so u can see real life numbers on set-ups ur looking into

Full exhaust, lid, Medium size cam and a 100 shot of N20. That should get you there. Otherwise you're looking at expensive heads and a big cam to make 450rwhp on a 346.

a 224/224 112LSA cam with some headers, ported TB, cold air intake, a tune, and a 75 - 100 shot of n2o would probably get you there and then some....and still be VERY driveable.....

I agree with that cam size. And you can pick up some used Patriots on the board for a fair price. Heads/cam/headers/intake/catback!!!

you can get a lot of power out of a ls1 with just simple stuff. headers, lid, port and polish tb, tune. all that with a decent cam should make a good 400hp
