Default can I use a-tap with home pc?

I dont have the funds to spend on a lap top but can I hook up my pc in the garage next to the car, I know I wont be able to make runs while its hooked up but is there something special about the a-tap cable going to a lap top or does it not matter?, thanks

No reason why you can't. Infact, you won't have to worry about loosing power to a laptop. Just make sure your connections are secure.

You should be able to do that just fine. I was going to do that myself, but then I ran onto a good deal on a laptop, so I haven't tried it. One thing I have noticed though, is it's nice to drive around testing changes, then just pull over anywhere and reflash without going home first. Another thing is you will need to log data with Atap or EFILive, and you will need to do that on the road. Another option is to get Atap for Palm; you can run it on an old used Palm that you can get cheap. The one I use was given to me for free . . .

A monitor would prolly kill the inverter pretty quick! Maybe a long extension cord. This way you could at least lay down some 60' runs.

You can get higher power inverters pretty cheap that can handle it, but doing this will drain you car battery pretty fast. If you do that try and get the smallest video monitor you can find to minimize power consumption. If you are driving while you do it you will be OK for Autotap but but you can't use LS1edit with the engine running.

B&B that markets AutoTap sells a 50' extension cable to do what you want. Do you really think you can get away with fitting your PC in the vehicle? It might work. Let's see? You could put the PC on the floor and the Monitor on the passenger seat and keep in place with the seatbelt/shoulder harness. You could even put the printer in the back seat and print out your data logs at red lites. Sounds like a plan! Forget the 50' cable and go with that idea instead. It's a winner.

LOL, done it already. When I first got my EFILive I didnt have a laptop yet. So I got an inverter and threw the puter in the car.

I took out the tops and rolled the windows down just to see some exprssions on ppls faces. I had my monitor next to me 17" in the front seat, the tower behind it and the keyboard resting on the center console.

It was a short drive, I just couldn't wait to play with the new toy.

Very ghetto! but it got the job done and was rather ammusing too!
