Engine struggling at 5000 rpms
I have a 98 t/a and anytime i get the engine turning 5000 rpms it sounds like its sputtering or like its redlining. It feels like the car isn't pulling hardly at all once i get the rpms that high. Once i get it passed 5000 it pulls fine tho. I was thinking maybe an exhaust leak...but that doesn't explain it losing power. If anyone can explain this or has an insight to this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just checked the oil. Its fine. Its above operating level. I just changed it about 2000 miles ago anyways so I didn't think that was it. The car has 95k on it. Any other ideas?

I thought the rear O2's didn't matter. Isn't it just the front that have an effect on the performance? I'll have it scanned when i get a chance to run by auto zone.

So yah. Why replace the rear O2 then if its bad. And if its a front O2 the engine wouldn't run right at all right? I still haven't had a chance to get it scanned.

fuel filter. Mine only had 60,000 miles and when i checked it to replace it, i pulled the old one out and couldnt blow throught it myself no matter how hard i tried thats how bad it was clogged. Car was doin exactly what you are describing, struggling towards redline. It will only get worse and if you dont change it fast it will take out the fuel pump with it as well. I cut the filter in half to find that it was full of **** and gunk. Change it and it'll feel like you picked up 50hp up top lol
