Arrow Now Hiring: Offshore Vessel Crew

Helix Energy Solutions is taking delivery of a brand new offshore installation vessel this week, and it needs an entire crew. Here is your chance to make some good money, for those of you that aren't afraid to work and won't get homesick from mommy

The offshore shifts will most likely be 28 days offshore, 14 days off to begin with. Later on it may become 4-on, 4-off. Pay is based on experience and skill level. The vessel is brand new and top of the line, no crusty old barge here.

Crane Operator Job Description


The following is a list of job descriptions that fall under the duties of the Crane Operator. All Crane Operator will be expected to have the ability and knowledge to conduct this job description with little to no supervision. If need be training in these job description may be conducted to help refresh a Crane Operator’s knowledge of said job.

Ability to read, write and understand company policies and procedures
Ability to operate vessel crane both in port like and offshore conditions
Knowledge and ability to conduct the daily, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual maintenance on vessel crane.
Basic knowledge and operation of motion suppression system
Basic knowledge and ability to operate ballast valves
Knowledge of Pipe Lay systems to include but not limited to:
Basic Knowledge of Spooling operations and procedures
Basic Knowledge of Pipelay operations and procedures
Basic Knowledge of Pipe removal operations and procedures
Basic Knowledge of Pipeline, Umbilical, and Plet lay down operations and procedures
Rigging knowledge and training to include but not limited to:
Knot tying
Knowledge of rigging abilities
Knowledge and ability to conduct personnel transfers
Prior rigging skills
Ability to rig loads properly
Crane signaling
Proper radio operation
Knowledge of company LAG policy and procedure to include LAG inspection
Chipping and painting policies and procedures
Personnel management skills
Ability to manage personnel and job duties
Knowledge and ability to work lock out tag out system

Foreman Job Description

The following is a list of job descriptions that fall under the duties of the Foreman. All Foremen will be expected to have the ability and knowledge to conduct this job description with little to no supervision. If need be training in these job description may be conducted to help refresh a Foreman’s knowledge of said job.

•Ability to read, write and understand company policies and procedures
•Knowledge of Pipe Lay systems to include but not limited to:
•Ability to read and understand blue prints and drawings
•Spooling operations and procedures
•Pipelay operations and procedures
•Anode installation
•Cad welding
•Pin brazing
•Pipe cut to length measuring
•Pull in operations and procedures
•Rigging knowledge and training to include but not limited to:
•Knot tying
•Knowledge of rigging abilities
•Basic prior rigging skills
•Ability to rig loads properly
•Crane signaling
•Proper radio operation
•Knowledge of company LAG policy
•Knowledge and ability to work lock out tag out system
•Chipping and painting policies and procedures
•Basic welding knowledge (equipment set up)
•Personnel management skills
•Ability to manage personnel and job duties
•Ability to keep others working and any given project moving forward at all times without direct supervision

Leaderman Job Description

The following is a list of job descriptions that fall under the duties of the Leaderman. All Leaderman will be expected to have the ability and knowledge to conduct this job description with little to no supervision. If need be training in these job description may be conducted to help refresh a Leaderman’s knowledge of said job.

•Ability to read, write and understand company policies and procedures
•Basic knowledge of Pipe Lay systems to include but not limited to:
•Ability to read and understand blue prints and drawings
•Spooling operations
•Pipelay operations
•Anode installation
•Cad welding
•Pin brazing
•Pipe cut to length measuring
•Basic rigging knowledge and training to include but not limited to:
•Knot tying
•Basic shackle knowledge
•Basic prior rigging skills
•Ability to rig loads properly
•Crane signaling
•Proper radio operation
•Knowledge of sling load limits
•Knowledge of company LAG policy
•Basic chipping and painting
•Knowledge of company policy and installation
•Knowledge and ability to work lock out tag out system
•Basic personnel management skills
•Ability to manage personnel and job duties
•Ability to continue working towards the improvement of Safety on the vessel and within the Helix Company
• Ability to continue working towards the improvement and the increasing of maintenance of all vessel and pipelay equipment and components.

Operator / Equipment Tech Job Description

The following is a list of job descriptions that fall under the duties of the Operator/Equip tech. All operator/ Equip. Tech will be expected to have the ability and knowledge to conduct this job description with little to no supervision. If need be training in these job description may be conducted to help refresh an operator/ Equip. tech. knowledge of said job.

•Ability to read, write and understand company policies and procedures
•Ability to communicate via radio
•Ability to read and understand blue prints and drawings
•Basic operation of Pipe Lay systems to include:
•Carousel operation (spooling and Pipe Lay)
•Clamp door and tower rising
•A&R sheave Operation
•Knowledge of system control panel
•Tower operations (spooling and Pipe Lay)
•Ability to set pipe straightener
•Grease Pipelay equipment
•Basic knowledge of welding equipment and repair
•Trouble shoot equipment problems
•A&R Winch operation (cross winches)
•PDI Tensioner operation
•Reel System operation (RS3, RS2, or similar)
•Basic mechanic work to include but not limited to:
•Track pad removal
•Roller installation
•Basic Diesel engine maintenance, repair and trouble shooting
•Basic Hydraulic equipment maintenance, repair and trouble shooting
Hook up and understand basic operation
•Basic Pneumatic equipment maintenance, repair and trouble shooting
Hook up and understand basic operation
•Basic electrical equipment maintenance, repair and trouble shooting
Hook up and understand basic operation
•Chipping and Painting of job equipment
•Basic use and repair of needle gun and hand scaler
•Knowledge of company painting policy and proper installation
• Ability to work safely both at heights and over the side
•Refueling operation and hazards associated
•Knowledge and ability to work lock out tag out system

Rigger Job Description


The following is a list of job descriptions that fall under the duties of the Rigger. All Rigger will be expected to have the ability and knowledge to conduct this job description with little to no supervision. If need be training in these job description may be conducted to help refresh a Rigger’s knowledge of said job.

Yes, good benefits with this company. Craigslist is okay, but I'm targeting car guys since most have a very mechanical mind and aren't afraid of getting dirty.

As far as the Operator / Tech position is concerned.... I think I have all of that covered. But I am going to need some clarification on one tiny issue,

•Knowledge of company painting policy and proper installation
I used to watch that fuzzy haired dude on PBS when I was at home sick a few years ago.... I can paint a landscape with trees and stuff. Is that what you are talking about?

you guys are funny

But seriously, these crewmen make some damn good money in this industry. Four GOOD meals per day, someone to do your laundry for you, clean beds and showers, all for free. Sure beats working in chemical plants like I did when I was in college.
