Default High Idle

I went to start my car (1998 camaro) and the battery was dead. I give it a jump off of my truck and the motor raced up to 3,000 rpms. I tried tap the gas pedal, check the TB making sure it was not stuck open, but nothing seems to work. Thanks for your help.

When you disconnect batteries or they go totally dead the computer needs to do an idle relearn. It's perfectly normal, it will correct itself after a little driving.

Thinking it's an idle relearn issue too - get that battery load tested.

"LS1>girlfriend" I did open the hood and pushed the TB forward to make sure that the blade was closed. Then I pushed the TB back to open the rpms went higher,so I figure the TB is working properly.
The battery will not hold a charge (dead battery). I recently removed the PS! and installed a short belt maybe the battery is not being told to recharge. I'll go and get a new battery and drive the car around town.

Thanks for everyones help!!

If the issue does not go away after new battery and a drive around-I'll strap it to the trailer and head over to the tuner.

a high idle can also indicate a vacuum leak. one time i shut off my 5.0 and when i went to crank it, the rpms shot to 3500. i looked under the hood and there was a vacuum distribution block and one was popped off. i plugged it back in and it ran perfect. im guessing the vibration of the motor when it stopped popped it off or something. i ended up replacing it.
